Technicolor Expands Experiences, Licensees for The Deep

technicolor 4dTechnicolor will expand the program for The Deep with the launch of a new 4D theatrical immersive experience, as well as branded products.

Technicolor and SimEx-Iwerks Entertainment will premiere the first theatrical experience based on the underwater adventure series this month.  The 12-minute, 3D viewing experience features exclusive 3D CG animation, an original storyline, and special effects. Additionally, special effects include a 4D experience with vibrating seats, spraying water, and bubbles. All locations will feature the film for a one-year period, supported by a variety of marketing and in-aquarium activities.  Read the rest of this entry »

Bloomsbury, Technicolor Launch Global Publishing Program for The Deep

TheDeepBloomsbury entered a publishing partnership with Technicolor to create a series of books based on the animated TV series The Deep. The deal was brokered by licensing agent CPLG.

Bloomsbury will produce a range of books for The Deep, including young fiction, official handbooks, and activity-based books. The publishing program will contain new storylines not seen on TV series. Initial offerings will launch in August. Read the rest of this entry »

Technicolor, Merlin Entertainments Group Partner to Create Aquarium Experience for The Deep

The Deep_SEALife_EventTechnicolor signed a cross-promotional agreement with Merlin Entertainments Group to create an interactive entertainment experience for the animated underwater adventure series The Deep more than 20 aquariums in the UK and Germany. The events support the launch of the series’ second season, alongside a new mobile game from DHX Interactive.

Technicolor, DHX Media Sign BBC UK to Broadcast The Deep

Technicolor and DHX Media Ltd. have finalized an agreement with the UK’s BBC to air The Deep on CBBC this March.

CBBC joins The Seven Network and ABC3 in Australia, Super RTL in Germany, Ketnet in Belgium, NRK in Norway, SVT in Sweden, YLE in Finland, and Family CHRGD in Canada as a broadcasting partner.

Technicolor and Mercury Filmworks Partner with Gaumont Animation for Atomic Puppet

Technicolor and Canada’s Mercury Filmworks announced their partnership with Gaumont Animation to co-develop and co-produce the animated comedy television series, Atomic Puppet, which will air on Disney XD in France, the U.S., and on various other Disney XD channels around the world. In Canada, the series will air on Teletoon Canada.

In France, Technicolor will work with Thierry Rivard to lead the co-production on behalf of Technicolor; and development in France is led by Paris-based Heath Kenny, Creative Director for Gaumont Animation.

Women in Animation Relaunches Under New Leadership

Oct30.WIAThe professional non-profit organization for women in the animation industry, Women in Animation, has re-launched under new executive leadership. Heading into the organization’s 20th year, the newly-elected co-presidents include Mattel’s Margaret Dean and Technicolor’s Kristy Scanlan.

As co-presidents, Dean and Scanlan will lead WIA and communicate its role and future vision to worldwide members—a world in which women share fully in the creation, production, and rewards of animation, resulting in richer and more diverse entertainment and media that move our culture forward.

Additionally, a new executive committee, board of directors, and advisory committee have been created. The executive committee includes Margaret Dean, Kristy Scanlan, Barbara Cimity (Robot Chicken) as treasurer, and Dawn Rivera-Ernster (Walt Disney Animation) as secretary.

The board of directors will include all of the members of the executive committee, along with Jinko Gotoh (The Little Prince for Onyx Films), Tracy Campell (Walt Disney Animation), Anna Jordan-Douglass (The Jim Henson Company), and Karen Kirkland (Nickelodeon).

The advisory committee includes Bonnie Arnold (DreamWorks Animation), Jenna Boyd (Nickelodeon), Ann Le Cam (Walt Disney Animation), Lenora Hume (Shut Up! Cartoons and TeamTO), and Adina Pitt (Cartoon Network and Boomerang).

Mercury Filmworks and Technicolor Finalize Development Deal With Teletoon Canada for Atomic Puppet

Canada’s Mercury Filmworks and Paris-based Technicolor (Euronext Paris: TCH) jointly announce a development deal with Teletoon Canada for animated comedy television series, Atomic Puppet.

Mercury Filmworks, Technicolor, and Teletoon will co-develop Atomic Puppet as a 2-D animated comedy series targeting kids 6 to 11. In Atomic Puppet, when Model City’s fearless superhero is transformed into a powerless puppet by his disgruntled sidekick, the hero’s powers are accidentally transferred to his biggest fan, 12-year-old Joey Felt. Together, the two form an awkward and comedic partnership as they strive to become the city’s greatest superhero team.

Technicolor Options Rights To The Deep

Technicolor (Euronext Paris: TCH) has optioned the rights for the international hit graphic novel series, The Deep, published by Gestalt Comics.
The Deep: Here Be Dragons graphic novel won the Aurealis Award for “Best Illustrated Book / Graphic Novel” of 2011 and was nominated for “Best Children’s Fiction (illustrated).” Technicolor Digital Productions aims to develop and produce 26 half-hour episodes of The Deep. The CGI-animated series targets kids ages 8 to 12 and their families. Each self-contained episode of The Deep brings the family a step closer to unraveling the mysteries of the deep sea.
