Simon & Shuster to Publish Picture Books Based on Lennon and McCartney Lyrics

Simon_LennonMcCartneyLittle Simon, an imprint of Simon & Schuster Children’s Publishing, entered a licensing agreement with Sony/ATV Music Publishing and Sony/ATV’s global licensing agent, Epic Rights, to create picture books inspired by two songs from The Beatles’ John Lennon and Paul McCartney.

All You Need is Love will be the first lyrical picture book and feature art by Marc Rosenthal. The book brings the song to life, showing kids that there is love all around them. All You Need is Love will be available in January. A second picture book will be published at a future date.

Spin Master Launches Moonlite Storybook Projector

SpinMaster_MoonliteSpin Master Corp. partnered with creator Natalie Rebot to bring the Moonlite Kickstarter campaign to Target stores beginning November 5.

Moonlite is a kid’s storybook projector that attaches to mobile phones and uses the flashlight of the phone to project story images onto the ceiling or wall. Sony Pictures Consumer Products Appoints Jazwares as Master Toy Partner, Adds Publishing Partners for Hotel Transylvania

HotelTransylvaniaSony Pictures Consumer Products named Jazwares as master toy partner for Hotel Transylvania. Additionally, Simon & Schuster Children’s Group, Papercutz Comics, and Bendon Publishing will create books inspired by the film franchise and new TV series. Both categories will anchor the global licensing program, which will have cross-category representation.

Jazwares’ toy line will be based on new and classic characters from the franchise and will hit shelves next summer leading up to the release of Hotel Transylvania 3. ITV Studios Global Entertainment Gears Up For London Toy Fair 2015

Jan19.ITVStudiosITV Studios Global Entertainment is gearing up for London Toy Fair 2015 with developments in the boys’ action adventure series, Thunderbirds Are Go!, and third party kids’ TV properties, Super 4 and Matt Hatter Chronicles.

Master toy partner Vivid Imaginations will lead the lineup for Thunderbirds Are Go!. The company will unveil the toy line at London’s Toy Fair, which features the Tracy Island play set, a vehicle play set, detailed action figures, and role-play products. The toy line will debut at UK retail in the third quarter and will be supported by an extensive digitally-integrated consumer marketing and retailer program.

In addition, other licensees for Thunderbirds Are Go! include Simon & Schuster and DC Thompson for publishing, Kokomo for personal care, Danilo for greeting cards and stationery, Posh Paws for accessories, and MV Sports for outdoor play.

For the Matt Hatter Chronicles, master toy partner Simba Smoby UK debuted the first toy line for the brand in the UK, EMEA, and India last fall. The new year marks the start of a global licensing program that will include Australia, France, Spain, and Italy. ITVS GE is working with its 17 UK licensing partners to prep 2015 retail launches.

The first line of Super 4 figures and play sets will launch at UK retail in the fourth quarter of this year. In addition, master publishing partners Bonnier Publishing and Redan are on board to launch products in the first quarter of next year.

Q&A with Tony Key, Senior Vice President of Sales and Marketing of Ubisoft

TonyKey.LBUbisoft is one of the biggest video game publishers in the world, with hit franchises such as Assassin’s Creed, which has sold 76 million games to-date. Licensed products (as well as an upcoming film version starring Michael Fassbender) are expected to increase the franchise’s visibility even further, giving it life beyond the game releases.

The Licensing Book recently spoke to Tony Key, Ubisoft’s senior vice president of sales and marketing, about licensing in relation to some of the company’s top franchises, how it can evolve with the franchise’s success, and the art of adapting video games into products.

The Licensing Book: When you compare the licensing programs of the most recent Assassin’s Creed with earlier installations, are the programs bigger now? Is it easier to convince licensees to jump on-board now?

Tony Key: The programs are definitely bigger and the range of products has broadened as well. The sales of the licensed products, as well as the games themselves, have each increased year-over-year, and this helps us secure new opportunities—whether they come to us or we reach out to them. Also, we have expanded our product assortment from what we would see as niche or genre products coming from boutique licensees, toward more mainstream, mass market products and powerhouse licensees, like Mega Brands or BioWorld. Derek Jeter Partners with Simon & Schuster to Launch Publishing Imprint

Simon & Schuster announces a multi-faceted, co-publishing partnership with Derek Jeter. Under the name Jeter Publishing, the program will encompass adult non-fiction titles, children’s picture books, middle grade fiction, and ready-to-read children’s books. Adult titles will be published in conjunction with the Gallery Books imprint and children’s titles will be published in conjunction with the Little Simon, Paula Wiseman Books, and Simon Spotlight imprints.

With Jeter Publishing, Derek Jeter will identify and help create sports-related non-fiction and fiction that appeals to audiences ranging from kids who look up to him as a role-model to sports-savvy adults who have been witness to his remarkable career. Jeter Publishing will also publish books featuring interesting personalities and themes in sports, pop-culture, and other arts.

Nelvana Begins Production on Trucktown

Corus Entertainment’s Nelvana Studio has announced start of production on a new boys preschool CGI-animated series Trucktown, based on a series of children’s books. Forty half-hour episodes will launch next spring. Corus Entertainment’s Treehouse is the first broadcaster to pick up the brand new series.

Trucktown, which follows the playful adventures of a group of rough-and-tumble young trucks, is based on a successful series of bestselling books by renowned children’s author Jon Scieszka and published by Simon & Schuster.

CBS Consumer Products To Feature Wide Display at Comic-Con International

At this year’s Comic-Con International later this week, CBS Consumer Products will debut a wide range of products based on its TV shows, including Star Trek, Dexter, and The Twilight Zone.

Star Trek products will celebrate Star Trek: The Next Generation’s 25th Anniversary. StarTrek.com will be giving away 1,701 copies of a limited edition The Next Generation poster, along with special giveaways including beach towels, watches, cycling jerseys, and flasks. A female fashion line will debut at Comic-Con by Her Universe featuring tops and hoodies. Anovos Productions will debut the Star Trek: Voyager Jumpsuit, Star Trek: The Next Generation outfit, as well as Star Trek: The Next Generation Female jumpsuits. Hallmark’s 2012 Star Trek Keepsake Ornaments will be shown at Hallmark’s booth, along with greetings and a preview of next year’s ornaments. Book publisher Simon & Schuster will feature its monthly Star Trek novels, as well as the upcoming Haynes Manual for the Klingon Bird of Prey.

Hasbro will preview its 2013 toys that will coincide with the Star Trek movie sequel, such as a line of premium Kre-O Star Trek building sets featuring spaceships and legendary characters from the franchise. Hasbro will also offer high-quality Kre-O bricks as well as new Kreon figures. La-La Land Records will sell its new Star Trek: The Motion Picture 3-CD Set, as well as its already released TNG 3-CD Set.

Dexter products will be released by Bif Bang Pow!, and be featured at Entertainment Earth’s booth. The four new products will be action figures of the main characters.

The Twilight Zone’s Richard Kiel (“Kanamit”) will be present at the convention autographing Bif Bang Pow!’s limited edition (700 pieces) SDCC Exclusive Kanamit’s Cookbook Gift Set that features a tin tote, journal, and an 8-inch-scale EMCE Kanamit Action Figure in a new outfit. A limited edition (750 pieces) SDCC Exclusive The Invaders Diorama and two new bobble heads will also be available.
