Rovio’s Revenue Increased by 94 Percent in the Second Quarter

rovioRovio Entertainment Ltd.’s growth continued in the second quarter of this year, with the company’s revenue increasing to EUR 86.2 million. The year-on-year revenue increase was 94.0 percent, mainly due to the performance of Rovio’s games, and the revenue from The Angry Birds Movie release last May. During second quarter, Rovio also launched two new games: Battle Bay and Angry Birds Evolution.

The revenue of the games business unit increased by 65.0 percent and amounted to EUR 61.3 million. The growth was driven by a 30 percent increase in the number of monthly paying users, and a 51 percent increase in revenue per monthly paying user.

The revenue of the brand licensing business unit increased by 242.6 percent to EUR 24.9 million. The strong revenue growth was also due to revenues from The Angry Birds Movie. Read the rest of this entry »

Rovio’s Angry Birds Evolution Now Available for Download

AngryBirdsEvolutionRovio Entertainment’s new Angry Birds Evolution puts a spin on the Angry Birds brand, featuring eastern-style RPG mechanics and console quality graphics. The reimagined and redesigned birds let players collect, train, and evolve them.

Rovio, in co-operation with Chimera Entertainment, created more than 100 new birds with multiple evolution states, some modeled after 80s action characters and comic book heroes.

The game is now available to download for free on the App Store and Google Play.

The Angry Birds Movie 2 Set for September 2019 Premiere

TheAngiryBirdsMovie2Columbia Pictures and Rovio Entertainment Ltd. will partner again for the new The Angry Birds Movie 2. Sony Pictures will distribute the sequel, which is planned to hit theaters on Sept. 20, 2019, coinciding with the 10th anniversary of the original Angry Birds game.

The Angry Birds Movie 2 will be directed by Thurop Van Orman (The Marvelous Misadventures of Flapjack, Adventure Time) and co-directed by John Rice (King of the Hill, Rick and Morty), who served as lead storyboard artist on The Angry Birds Movie and directed the popular Angry Birds Hatchlings shorts. Additionally, the film will be produced by John Cohen (Despicable Me, The Angry Birds Movie), and Peter Ackerman (The Americans, Ice Age) will write the screenplay. Read the rest of this entry »

Rovio Entertainment and Mikael Hed Honored with Hulda Award for The Angry Birds Movie

angry birdsRovio Entertainment and Mikael Hed, executive producer of The Angry Birds Movie, received the Finnish Audiovisual Export Award Hulda. The award is presented annually by Audiovisual Finland and honors excellence in creative industry export.

The Angry Birds Movie is the most internationally successful Finnish film of all time and is also the second highest-grossing movie based on a game. The award was presented by Finland’s minister of economic affairs Mika Lintilä at the annual Finnish film industry event Jussi Gaala, which took place last Friday.

Rovio Entertainment Introduces Angry Birds Blast

angrybirdsblastRovio Entertainment launches Angry Birds Blast, a new game for mobile devices where players burst balloons as they move through different levels. Each player begins with 250 gold coins, which allows players to navigate through more than 270 levels.

Angry Birds Blast is developed in collaboration with Shanghai-based studio MYBO and is available for download for free on iOS and Android devices.

Rovio Entertainment Ltd. Partners with DJ Darude To Soundtrack Angry Birds Update

Rovio Entertainment Ltd. partnered with Finnish DJ and producer Darude to soundtrack The Mighty League, an update to the original Angry Birds video game, marking the first major update after the game launched in 2009. The new “Mighty League Anthem” is a remixed version of Darude’s song “Sandstorm.”

Players can access The Mighty League directly from the main screen of their existing Angry Birds app and compete to beat other players. Three different levels are available for play each day, drawn from existing episodes. Players will work their way through six leagues to make it to the top tier, otherwise they will be relegated to lower leagues.

Angry Birds 2 Hits 30 Million Downloads Worldwide

Angry-Birds-2-logoA little less than two weeks since its worldwide release, Angry Birds 2, from Rovio Entertainment Ltd., has been downloaded 30 million times. According to Rovio, approximately one third of those downloads came from China.
