King Features Syndicate, A Bathing Ape Partner for Popeye Collection


King Features Syndicate, a division of Hearst, partnered with Japanese streetwear brand A Bathing Ape (Bape) for a Popeye collection. Launching this month, the collection features Popeye and Olive Oyl on graphics that are integrated with Bape’s signature Ape Head and College Logo motifs.

Bape’s specially designed graphics with Popeye appear in a wide line of apparel and accessories for adults and kids, including T-shirts, hooded sweatshirts, button-down shirts, tote bags, caps, and keychains. The new collection will be promoted across the brand’s social media and digital channels and launch at Bape stores globally on June 30.

Wildbrain, King Features to Produce Original Popeye Content for Youtube

Wildbrain_PopeyeKing Features Syndicate entered an agreement with WildBrain to manage and produce original Popeye content on YouTube. This marks the first agreement for original Popeye content in more than 10 years, leading to a reimagination of the brand ahead of its 90th anniversary next year.

WildBrain will have worldwide management rights for the Popeye and Friends Official YouTube Channel, and will work with King Features to enhance existing programming. King Features, Spirit of Cadeau Launch Betty Boop, Popeye Pre-Paid Cards

The new gift cards may be loaded in increments of 20€ to 250€, and may be used all at once or at several times until all of the money is spent. The deal with Spirit of Cadeau was brokered by Biplano, the King Features licensing agent in France.


Popeye Sails Into Joyrich with New Fashion Collaboration

Generation-X, the ‘90s-themed line, launched in August and includes unisex jackets, sweaters,  hoodies, sweatshirts, turtlenecks, rugby shirts, and T-shirts; accessories include socks, caps, totes, clutches, and iPhone cases.

Havaianas Launches Popeye Flip-Flop Collection

havaianas popeyeFoot wear brand Havaianas has launched a collection of flip-flops, featuring the classic love trio—Popeye, Olive Oyl, and Bluto. The first design went on sale in all Havaianas stores across Brazil as a project to celebrate the Brazilian Valentine’s Day on June 12.

Focused on iconic poses and images, this collection included three styles, one for women and two in unisex sizes, and was promoted through retail displays.

The current collection features three new designs in unisex sizes, available in Havaianas stores worldwide. Fans can find two models with Popeye and another with Olive Oyl.

King Features Partners for Digital Licensing

King Features Syndicate has partnered with Zynga, Scientific Gaming, and Dragonplay to bring its classic brands to digital platforms through social games, social media integrations, and other mobile apps.

Next year, Zoobe Messaging will debut animated 3-D Popeye avatars for mobile apps and messaging services. Fashion UK recently launched a Betty Boop-inspired dress-up game in the UK and the U.S., and Boluga will launch the Flash Gordon mobile game this fall in numerous markets and languages around the world. This summer, European Games Group launched Flash Gordon virtual goods, costumes, and accessories as in-game purchases in the Hero Zero MMO game, with offerings featuring The Phantom coming soon. In late 2015, Walkinglife Media will debut Popeye computer and mobile games in China.

In Japan, Dena has debuted virtual Betty Boop goods to be sold within its “mobage” social networking service. Web Marketing Japan will launch Popeye and Betty Boop smartphone decorations and smartphone application software for Facebook graphics, and Sammy Networks will launch Popeye and Olive Oyl mobile pachinko games. M-Up will utilize Betty Boop and Popeye for its delivery services for NTT DoCoMo customers, including vocal in-character inquiry responses, screen decorations, flash animation, and smartphone screen icons.

King Features has also partnered with Kuboo, a social networking site that brings safe and wholesome entertainment to kids, to create premium content for the site featuring Popeye and a new virtual world called Goon Island. Now in development, Goon Island will feature Popeye-themed games and virtual items such as clothing, furnishings, and decorations.

PF Flyers Launches Popeye/Bluto Rivalry-Inspired Opening Day Collection


In honor of baseball’s opening day, PF Flyers has teamed up with King Features Syndicate to create an Opening Day Collection that captures both the spirit of the game and the rivalry between characters Popeye and Bluto, who played their iconic baseball game in a 1937 animated short, the same year that PF Flyers debuted its quality American footwear.

PF Flyers has created a capsule collection featuring Mitchell Bat Co., Ebbets Field Flannels, and Leather Head Sports for a line of special-edition footwear, baseball hats, bats, and baseballs inspired by the rival teams, Popeye’s Pirates and Bluto’s Bears. This collaboration continues a series of Popeye licensing deals that have put the icon at retail.

King Features Syndicate and Razor MD Partner to Manufacture Shaving Collection Featuring Popeye

Popeye will be the face of a new line of shaving products through a unique collaboration between King Features Syndicate and Razor MD, starting March 31st.

Razor MD will roll out the first special-edition men’s shaving gift sets that incorporate the likeness of Popeye and his signature clean-shaven look into a modern take on shaving and grooming products. The collection will be sold online at and will be carried in select brick-and-mortar stores and select barbershops and grooming lounges throughout North America.

The Razor MD Popeye shave collection is an all-natural, American-made line of hand-crafted shave products which will be sold as a complete three-piece shaving gift, housed in a hand-made Popeye signature tin can.
