NFLPA Acquires Minority Stake in SportsCastr

SportsCastr sold a minority stake to the National Football Association Players Association (NFLPA). As part of the deal, SportsCastr, represented by O’Melveny, became an official licensee of the NFLPA for mobile apps and web-based platforms that enable fans to utilize video streams and chat technology to discuss sports topics.

Sportscastr is a live streaming platform that allows anyone to become a color commentator. In the deal, active and former NFL players will provide live commentary across various professional and college events using SportsCastr. NFLPA Releases First Top 50 Players Sales List for 2018 Season

NFLAPA_LogoThe National Football League Players Association (NFLPA) released its Top 50 Players Sales List from the March 1 through May 31 period.

The Top Ten players among all licensed product sold:

LIMA Appoints New Members to Board of Directors

LIMALast week, the Licensing Industry Merchandisers’ Association (LIMA) announced the new members of its board of directors. Cindy Levitt, senior vice president of licensing at Hot Topic, BoxLunch, and Her Universe, was elected chairman of the board. Levitt succeeds Ciarán Coyle of Electrolux Global Marketing, who completed a two-year term. Jay Asher, partner at Brandgenuity, was elected as vice chairman, and JJ Ahearn, managing director of Licensing Street LLC, was voted board designate to the executive committee, both for one-year terms.

Additionally, the LIMA membership elected six new members to begin terms on the LIMA board, effective July 1. New members Liza Abrams of Sakar International; Naz Amarchi-Cuevas of SYBO Games; Sam Ferguson of Jazwares; Bill Patterson of OpSec Security Inc.; Jason Sutton of Polaroid; and Takanori Ueno of Laura Ashely Japan Co. NFLPA Forecasts Next Group of Top-Selling Players on Rising Stars List

NFLPARisingStarListNFL Players Association (NFLPA), via its marketing and licensing arm NFL Players Inc., predicted that Saquon Barkley, Alvin Kamara, and Case Keenum rank as projected future top-selling performers on the NFLPA Rising Stars list.

This year’s list features three categories of projected top-sellers: Rookies, Veterans and Familiar Faces, and New Places. The list aims to identify the next players poised to have an instant impact on consumer sales and rank among top sellers of all officially licensed player-identified merchandise for all NFLPA sponsors, licensees, retailers, and future partners. Tom Brady Reclaims No. 1 Spot on NFLPA Top 50 Player Sales List

nflpalogoTom Brady tops the list of pro football player retail sales in the first quarter of the 2017-2018 season. The list is based on total sales of all officially-licensed NFL player merchandised, tracking year-to-date pre-season results from March 1 through May 31, 2017. Brady last held the No. 1 spot six months prior.

Brady has been a consistent presence at the top of the sales list over the last 13 quarters. Over that span, he has been No. 1 four times, and inside the top three spots on nine different occasions.

Brady was joined at the top of the list by Dallas Cowboys’ running back Ezekiel Elliott (No. 2) and quarterback Dak Prescott (No. 3). In May, Elliott and Prescott occupied the top two spots on the year-end 2016-17 Top 50 Player Sales List, marking the first time rookies finished a season at the top. EA Sports, Panini America, and 500 Level Named Winners Of 2016 NFLPA Licensees Of The Year Awards

EA Sports, Panini America, and 500 Level were named winners of the second annual NFL Players Association (NFLPA) Licensee of the Year Awards. EA Sports won for Digital Licensee of the Year, Panini America for Hardlines Licensee of the Year, and 500 Level for Apparel Licensee of the year.

A panel comprising NFLPA executives judged entrants on five criteria: number of unique players featured within the licensees’ product lines; the marketing and promotional activations that featured players throughout the year; creativity and innovation in product development; the companies’ positive development of the players’ intellectual property; and, the range of distribution and growth in annual financial performance.

The NFLPA launched the awards last year to honor the NFLPA licensees that have demonstrated successful and creative use of group player rights within the past year.
