NBA, Take-Two to Launch NBA 2K eLeague

NBA2KeLeagueThe National Basketball Association (NBA) and Take-Two Interactive Software Inc. (TTWO) partnered to launch NBA 2K eLeague, a competitive gaming league. This marks the first official eSports league operated by a professional sports league in the U.S.

The league will debut next year and will consist of teams operated by actual NBA franchises. The founding teams, each composed of five professional eSports players who will play the game as user-created avatars, will be announced in upcoming months. The NBA 2K eLeague will follow a professional sports league format: competing head-to-head throughout a regular season, participating in a bracketed playoff system, and concluding with a championship matchup.

Marriott International Inc. and NBA Extend Partnership

Marriott International Inc. and the National Basketball Association (NBA) extended their partnership, making Marriott a partner of league events, including NBA House Rio, NBA All-Star, and select NBA Global Games. In addition, Marriott International will become an official partner of USA Basketball.

Marriott International and the National Basketball Association have partnered to make the global lodging company the official hotel of several NBA events around the world, including the NBA Global Games 2015-16, NBA Africa Game 2015, and NBA Canada Series 2015. Marriott is the first company to partner with the NBA across international games on five different continents.

Backyard Sports Games to Re-launch on Mobile Devices

Backyard Sports, which originally debuted in 1997, will be released in mobile game form for smartphones and tablets. A roster of new professional sports stars will join the Backyard Sports team with in-game power ups and never-before-seen features.

Golden State Warriors point guard Stephen Curry has joined with Day 6 Sports Group as the face of the Backyard Sports Basketball line and is the first NBA player to sign an endorsement deal with the franchise. Backyard Sports NBA Basketball will be released next spring.

NBA and FIBA to Host Basketball Without Borders Global Camp

Nov21.NBAThe National Basketball Association (NBA) and the International Basketball Federation (FIBA) will host a Basketball Without Borders (BWB) Global Camp as part of NBA All-Star 2015 in New York City. The inaugural camp will be held February 13 to 15 at Baruch College in Manhattan. Nike will be the official partner.

The camp will connect the top 40 players born in 1997 from Africa, the Americas, Asia/Pacific, and Europe with select NBA, WNBA, and FIBA players and coaches. The campers will also attend the BBVA Compass Rising Stars Challenge and participate in additional All-Star activities.

As part of the league’s efforts to reach half a million youths throughout the five boroughs with fun, fitness-related basketball activities, BWB Global campers will take part in the NBA FIT Celebration and work side by side with NBA, WNBA, and FIBA players and legends to host basketball and fitness clinics.  The campers will also participate in a life skills seminar addressing essential health-related issues.

BWB, the NBA and FIBA’s global basketball development program, has reached more than 2,200 campers from 120 countries and territories, with 33 BWB campers drafted into the NBA.

Nike, a BWB global partner since 2002, will outfit the campers and coaches with Nike apparel and footwear.
