LIMA Announces Rising Stars Award Winner

The United Kingdom office of the International Licensing Industry Merchandisers’ Association (LIMA) announces that Matthew Glynn of the Football Association has been named named its second annual UK Rising Star. The Award ceremony took place at LIMA UK’s annual Young Professionals Networking event in London.

The LIMA UK Rising Stars Award is designed to support and champion excellence among junior licensing industry professionals. Glynn will receive one year of mentorship from LIMA UK Managing Director Kelvyn Gardner. “I look forward to working with Matthew, who has shown a commitment to and passion for the UK licensing industry as well as demonstrating innovation, initiative and leadership in his career to date,” said Gardner. “It is also great to celebrate sports licensing with our young professionals and we’re really pleased to be able to recognize and support such talent in our industry.” “I am absolutely delighted to win the LIMA Rising Star Award having only recently stepped into a managerial role at The FA. LIMA UK’s Licensing Essentials Course, Legendary Licensing Debate and Spring Fling Networking Party Set for May 7

The International Licensing Industry Merchandisers’ Association (LIMA) will host its annual UK Licensing Essentials Course on May 7 at 54 Buckingham Gate in London. Topics will include How to Make Licensing Work In-store and The Effect of Traditional vs. Digital Play Patterns on Licensing. The day will feature seminars on best practices, basic licensing know-how, new opportunities, and current industry trends.

Kelvyn Gardner, managing director of LIMA UK, will kick off the day with an Introduction to Licensing session. Licensing Essentials speakers will include Mike Stagg (managing licensing programs at retail); Gurminder Panesar (essential legal know-how); Henrique Carvalho (essential financial know-how); Max Templeman (scope and value of research into consumer products & licensing); Gary Pope (insights into child behaviour and the retail experience); and Dave Collins (why great design is at the heart of successful licensing).

The Legendary Licensing Debate is a lively and often provocative discussion on licensing. Following the debate will be the Spring Fling networking party, expected to draw more than 150 senior industry executives.

LIMA UK Managing Director Wins Honorary Achievement Award at the UK Licensing Awards 2013

LIMA UK Managing Director Kelvyn Gardner won the Honorary Achievement Award at the UK Licensing Awards ceremony, held at The Grosvenor House Hotel, London. The award celebrates Gardner’s dedication and service to the licensing industry over three decades.

Since 1998, Gardner has worked as a consultant in the licensing industry through his company, Asgard Media. Currently Asgard has clients in a variety of merchandise and service disciplines including Topps,Yoplait, and Finsbury Food group. In 2006 he assumed the duties of Managing Director for LIMA in the UK.

Gardner contributes to the judging of the UK Licensing Awards, is a trustee of the industry’s charitable company, The Light Fund, and regularly opens Brand Licensing Europe’s annual Licensing Academy with his Licensing talks.

LIMA UK to Hold flip Career Development Networking Event

Junior licensing professionals looking to progress their career are being encouraged to attend the second LIMA UK flip (Future LIMA Industry Professionals) networking event on September 25, which focuses on how to develop a successful career and find peer-to-peer support within the licensing community. The event will take place in The Dana Centre Café, adjacent to the Science Museum in London.

Highlighting the event will be a talk by Victoria Saint from Turner, Cartoon Network Enterprises, who will draw on her career in brand and entertainment properties to give attendees insights and advice on how to succeed in licensing. Following Anya Hollis’ talk, there will be an opportunity for attendees to have a drink and network with others within the licensing community.

Admission is £10, and includes refreshments at The Science Museum’s Dana Centre. The ticket also grants access to the Science Museum’s free Lates Events, which begin immediately after the event at 7:30 p.m.

LIMA UK Announcements

LIMA UK will have a new home at Brand Licensing Europe on October 15-17 this year, as it moves to a bigger stand (R20) in the newly created “Brands” area upstairs at Olympia. LIMA staff will also be on hand to give advice and answer questions on licensing issues, as well as introduce this year’s member benefits package, which includes discounts off major shows such as BLE, education, and networking events, plus advice, information, and worldwide licensing contacts through the LIMA database and LIMAnet.

LIMA also has a new venue for its Global Networking Party, taking place on October 16, from 5:30-7:30 p.m. The party will take place in London at the Crystal Room at The Mayfair Hotel, on Stratton Street. Tickets cost £50 for members and £100 for non-members and include canapés and drinks. More than 150 people are expected to attend, and the party is being sponsored by the Hong Kong Trade Development Council.

Ryan Beaird Appointed Membership Services Manager for LIMA UK

LIMA UK has appointed Ryan Beaird as its new membership services manager for the UK. Ryan follows in the footsteps of Saphia Maxamed.

Beaird studied at the South East Essex College of Arts and Technology, and has worked for numerous financial institutions including Schroders Investment Management, Barings Asset Management, Morgan Stanley, and State Street Bank & Trust.

Beaird decided to pursue his passion for cartooning and started a greeting card company. He developed his cartoon series, Jack & Runty, and was signed by PIB Features (Denmark) and D.P.A. – Global Media Services in 2012 to distribute his newspaper strips, which are published in newspapers throughout the world. He has presented Jack & Rusty at numerous trade shows, including the Licensing Expo.

Beaird will be the first point of call for LIMA’s UK members. He will offer day-to-day support for members on specific business issues and will be a focal point for industry news and information. He will also take over the management of LIMA UK’s events such as Spring Fling and LIMA’s new-look stand and events at BLE in October.
