DC Comics Launches DC Universe, Digital Subscription Service


This fall, DC Comics will launch DC Universe, a digital subscription service that gives subscribers access to exclusive content and experiences. Subscribers can watch all-new original live-action and animated series, classic TV series and films, read a curated selection of digital comic books, breaking news, an expansive DC-centric encyclopedia, and gain access to exclusive merchandise.

Additional features include opportunities to connect with others in the DC community, earn premium rewards, and participate in sweepstakes and contests. Beta access sign-ups will open in August, giving members a chance to test the new digital experience and provide feedback on the early version of the service before it goes live this fall. Diane Nelson to Head WBCP, Brad Globe to Step Down

Consumer Products (WBCP) to her current responsibilities as president, DC Entertainment (DCE), and president and chief content officer, Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment (WBIE). The announcement was made today by Kevin Tsujihara, the chairman and CEO of Warner Bros.

At DCE, Nelson currently leads efforts to strategically integrate the DC Comics, Vertigo, and Mad brands into Warner Bros. Entertainment and its content and distribution businesses. For WBIE, her responsibilities include overseeing the development of digitally powered console and mobile games for WBIE, including those based on DC characters and other Warner Bros. properties.

WBCP Signs Partners for School Supplies

supermanlunchboxWarner Bros. Consumer Products (WBCP) is partnering with Thermos and Vaultz to bring DC Comics-inspired school supplies to kids heading back to school.

Thermos will introduce Caped Insulated Dual-Compartment Lunch Kits available in Superman and Batman versions, and Insulted Dual-Compartment Lunch Kits in Batgirl and Wonder Woman versions. For Scooby-Doo fans, Thermos will also offer a Scooby-Doo Lunch Box with a padded carrying handle.

Vaultz will offer Locking Pencil Boxes and Locking Binder Pouches featuring the Batman emblem.

The Art of the Brick: DC Comics to Debut at the Powerhouse Museum in Sydney

Unknown-1Lego Artist Nathan Sawaya in partnership with Warner Bros. Consumer Products (WBCP) and DC Comics has created the world’s largest collection of DC Comics-inspired Lego artwork, The Art of the Brick: DC Comics. The exhibition will be on display at the Sydney, Australia’s Powerhouse Museum, part of the Museum of Applied Arts and Sciences (MAAS), in November—the first venue to host the exhibition’s worldwide tour. The announcement was made by WBCP at Comic-Con International: San Diego.

The contemporary art exhibition takes on the DC Comics’ 80-year history with large-scale sculptures of super heroes and super-villains made entirely out of Lego bricks. Fans at San Diego Comic-Con were given a behind-the-scenes glimpse at several sculptures to be showcased at Sydney’s Powerhouse Museum, including interpretations of Batman, Wonder Woman, and Superman during the DC Comics Meets Lego Art panel.

WBCP Grants Multiple Property Rights to 3 Dimensional Art LLC


3 Dimensional Art LLC has been granted rights from Warner Bros. Consumer Products (WBCP) to develop innovative 3-D art products for classic Warner Bros. properties and DC Comics Super Heroes, which are licensed by WBCP on behalf of DC Entertainment. 3D Arts’ license includes properties such as Looney Tunes, Scooby-Doo, Harry Potter, Batman, and Superman.

Through the agreement, 3D Art will create and release a range of products including wall art, posters, postcards, magnets, and other consumer products featuring DC Comics’ world of superheroes; as well as Looney Tunes, Scooby-Doo, and Harry Potter. Initial products will be released during the second quarter of this year. All products will feature high-resolution lenticular imagery, which adds depth, movement, and brings featured characters to life.

Batman Unlimited, DC Super Friends Animated Content to Debut Following Successful Toy Lines

Warner Bros. Consumer Products, DC Entertainment, and Warner Bros. Animation have created a wave of new content inspired by toy lines from Mattel and Fisher-Price. Batman Unlimited, based on Mattel’s new toy line, will launch later this year with new made-for-video movies and shorts that will extend the play experience for kids. Warner Bros. Consumer Products and Party City Partner for Party Goods

Consumer Products and Party City Holdings Inc. have partnered on behalf of DC Entertainment to release a collection of family-friendly party goods, favors, décor, and balloons inspired by Warner Bros.’ properties and the DC Comics pantheon of Super Heroes. The product features an array of characters such as Superman, Batman, and Scooby-Doo, and will be available in Party City stores across the U.S. and Canada this summer.

To celebrate the collection, Party City will host party zones that spotlight key properties, including a Batman party zone coming to Party City retailers across the U.S. and Canada in July, and a Scooby-Doo party zone in August.

Additionally, American Greetings will distribute party goods, favors, and décor in mass and supermarket channels.
