Silvergate Media, Netflix Sign New Three-year Deal for Octonauts

Silvergate Media, Netflix signed a new three-year, multi-territory deal for seasons one, two, and three of preschool property Octonauts.

Netflix is currently the exclusive SVOD partner for Octonauts in the U.S.

Octonauts will now be available on Netflix in France, Latin America (Spanish), and Canada (English and French). The number of series under license varies in each territory.

Now in its fourth season Octonauts is aired in more than 100 countries across the world, including Disney Channel (U.S.), ABC (Australia), TF1 (France), Super RTL (Germany), and China Central TV (CCTV).

Peppa Pig logoEntertainment One (eOne), co-owners and worldwide distributors of global preschool property Peppa Pig, has named Corus Entertainment’s Nelvana, a worldwide children’s entertainment producer and distributor, as the property’s exclusive licensing and branding agent in Canada. Peppa Pig, which airs weekdays on Treehouse in Canada, will expand its footprint in North America with a consumer products initiative set to roll out to mass market stores across the region in fall of next year.

Hampshire Adds Dockers Women’s License to Portfolio

Hampshire Group Ltd. has signed a licensing agreement with Levi Strauss Company for its Dockers brand in women’s apparel. This agreement gives Hampshire the licensing rights to design, source, market, and service the women’s category for both tops and bottoms next spring season. The license will extend to include Mexico and Canada next fall. The initial agreement will run trough 2018.

Previously, women’s products were handled in house at Levi Strauss & Co. This agreement is an addition to the current licensing arrangement between Hampshire and Levi Strauss & Co. that already includes the license for men’s tops and sweats for the Dockers brand in the U.S., Mexico, and several countries in Central and South America.

COMMENTARY: Hôtel de Glace Puts the “Ice” in Licensing

Quebec City
is a winter wonderland in late February and early March. Strolling around historic Old Québec, one can find statues and life-size pieces of furniture carved out of ice, but even then, Ville de Quebec is only getting started. Indeed, a mere 10 minutes from the city’s heart by car—and slightly longer by public transit—is the Hôtel de Glace (aka the Ice Hotel), a major tourist attraction constructed from more than 30,000 tons of snow.

The Hôtel de Glace is constructed in early December, through a method that requires less than zero temperatures across a week. After a very dense snow is blown onto metal frames to create archways and domes, the frames are removed, leaving behind the hotel’s walls and ceilings. Next, heavy blocks of clear ice are moved in, which a team of sculptors uses to create the hotel’s mesmerizing columns, furniture, and decorations.

Kidz Bop Kids Set to Perform in Canada

Studio Licensing and Kidz Bop are set to build a strong profile for the brand, which will include rolling out a fully integrated program consisting of live appearances, licensing, merchandising, marketing, and promotions.

The Kidz Bop Kids will perform in Canada for the first time ever on July 4 at Canada’s Wonderland. They will also make a special appearance at the Vaughan Mils and Sherway Gardens Toys “R” Us locations on July 3 to support their upcoming album. Immediately following their two performances at Canada’s Wonderland, the Kidz Bop Kids will be available for autograph signings and meet and greets with fans.
