Licensing University 2017 to Tackle Topics for Success in the Ever-Changing Marketplace

May27LIMA(2)The International Licensing Industry Merchandisers’ Association (LIMA) assembled Licensing University sessions on these and other topics featuring a “who’s who” of experts to help licensing professionals capitalize on today’s newest business prospects.

Licensing University takes place on May 22 to the 25 at Mandalay Bay Convention Center in Las Vegas, NV. The program is part of Licensing Week, held alongside Licensing Expo, which is owned and organized by UBM and sponsored by LIMA. The Expo begins on May 23.

Chief commercial officer of sports-licensing company Fanatics Inc., Cole Gahagan will deliver the keynote address, “Licensing In The On-Demand Economy.” Gahagan will look at the company’s strategies and how it views the road ahead. The keynote session is from 8 a.m. to 9 a.m. on Tuesday, May 23.

In addition, Licensing University will feature other hot topic sessions this year. Growth Markets – India, China and Brazil will examine three of the global marketplaces most often cited as having the greatest growth potential for sales of licensed goods. Speakers will include Rohit Sobit of Brand Monk Licensing, Clara Yang of UYoung Culture and Media Co. Ltd., and David Diesendruck of Redibra. Jiggy George of Dream Theatre Pvt. Ltd will be the session’s moderator.

Planning-And Executing-Your Social Media Strategy will provide the latest stats, insights, and trends on where social media is today and where it is going, as well as provide an overview of the process for developing an effective social media strategy that is both targeted and flexible. The session will be presented by Natalie Cupps DiBlasi of LACED Agency

Eight Key Steps in Extending a Brand will discuss over-licensing and the many questions that individuals may have concerning it. Speakers include Christian Mayer of Telefunken Licenses GmbH, Vera Tsekeris of HP; Ted Curtin of Leveraged Marketing Corp. of America (LMCA) and ProdigyWorks. Allan Feldman of LMCA will be the moderator.

Basics of Sports Licensing will give attendees the opportunity to learn how to integrate sports into their product portfolio and what the growth potential is for local, national, and international consumers. Speakers include Carl Banks of G-III Sports, Matt Chavlovich of Major League Soccer, and Matt Dyste of Fermata Partners. Steve Scebelo of NFL Players Inc. will be the moderator.

The Changing Landscape of Digital Entertainment is a discussion about the video game and digital entertainment landscape, and how to navigate the choices an entertainment or corporate brand holder has to understand and make. Speakers include Javon Frazier of Studio71, Arthur Madrid of Pixowl, Travis Rutherford of Evolution USA Ltd., John Sutyak of DDM, and Clint Waasted of Zynga. Mark Caplan of BD Labs Inc. will be the session moderator.

Capsules, Collaborations and Limited Editions: Opportunities and Pitfalls will discuss the benefits and challenges of partnerships that are narrow in scope and have taken the place of traditional long-term licensing agreements in many situations. The presentation will include a brief overview of the landscape, plus two case studies and a Q&A. Speakers include Christine Cool of Perfetti van Melle Group, Pamela Deese of Arent Fox, and Carla Silva of King Features. Karen Raugust of Raugust Communications will be the moderator.

Studies in Food and Beverage Branding will feature a trio of presentations offering very different perspectives on this growth area of the licensing business. Speakers include David Lee of MillerCoors, Sondra Newkirk of Meredith Corp., and Ernie Savo of The Hershey Co. Ricardo Yoselevitz of Seltzer Licensing Group will be the session’s moderator.
