WBCP Signs Partners for School Supplies

supermanlunchboxWarner Bros. Consumer Products (WBCP) is partnering with Thermos and Vaultz to bring DC Comics-inspired school supplies to kids heading back to school.

Thermos will introduce Caped Insulated Dual-Compartment Lunch Kits available in Superman and Batman versions, and Insulted Dual-Compartment Lunch Kits in Batgirl and Wonder Woman versions. For Scooby-Doo fans, Thermos will also offer a Scooby-Doo Lunch Box with a padded carrying handle.

Vaultz will offer Locking Pencil Boxes and Locking Binder Pouches featuring the Batman emblem.

LIMA Highlights Top Kid Toy Brands in Survey for Back to School Season

A new study by the Licensing Industry Merchandiser’s Association (LIMA) has revealed Britain’s top licensed toy brands amongst British children and what is expected to be seen on back-to-school products such as backpacks, pencil cases, and lunch boxes. The study showed that global brands Lego and Barbie dominate both in the UK and abroad as the brands celebrate their 65th and 55th birthdays, respectively. Read the rest of this entry »

Guardians of the Galaxy Set to Launch into Retail Ahead of Theatrical Release

Licensees and retailers are preparing for high fan demand for merchandise inspired by Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy in anticipation of the upcoming movie. Retailers have developed a wide range of product lines with over 50 licensees that are attracting strong placement and pre-sales across mass, mid-tier, specialty, and online retail channels. Products are set to start launching in mid-June. In addition, Marvel Studio’s marketing for the merchandising program will hit full force beginning in late-June.

Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy is an action-packed, space adventure where adventurer Peter Quill is the center of a bounty hunt after he stole a mysterious orb coveted by Ronan, a powerful villain with ambitions to threaten the universe. Quill forms a truce with Groot, Rocket Raccoon, Gamora, and Drax to evade Ronan and must participate in a final showdown to restore balance in the galaxy.

The upcoming movie is unique to any others in the Marvel franchise, which had made it appealing to manufacturers and consumers.  Rocket Raccoon will distinguish himself as a breakout character, which has made him popular for licensees to keep up with the anticipated demand for Rocket inspired products.  In addition, Star-Lord’s obsession with the 80’s has created a platform for a wide range of 80’s nostalgia apparel and accessories. Manufacturers are also focusing on Drax and Gamora, who have become popular with male and female demographics.

New Licensing Deals Abound for Slugterra Brand


Slugterra is the focus of new licensing deals across Italy, Latin America, Russia, Turkey, Israel, and South Africa.

In Italy, Nerd Corps and licensing agent Discovery Media are bringing the property’s slugs to trading cards and stickers following a deal with Gedis. The toy line, from Jakks Pacific, is set to launch next year through distributor Giochi Preziosi.

In Latin America, Nerd Corps’ agent Compañia Panamericana de Licencias has made a deal with Panini to bring trading cards and stickers to Brazil, along with stickers in several territories across Latin America.

In Russia, Nerd Corps’ agent Megalicense has brought Apps Ministry on board to develop and produce a new iOS game for worldwide distribution as well as localize Nerd Corps’ first iOS game, Slug it Out!for the Russian market.

In Turkey, Istanbul Lisans represents the brand, and deals have been signed for back-to-school merchandise with Hakan Canta and Keskincolor. Slugterra toys will roll out across the region this fall, through distributor Ottonya.

In Israel, regional agent Brand Is Real has secured a deal with Shoshi Zohar for Slugterra costumes and other dress-up products.

In South Africa, agent Character Licensing & Marketing has made a new deal with David Gresham Records to bring Slugterra to home video in time for this holiday season.

Slugterra toys have also already launched in the U.S. and the UK, and more will launch in nine new territories this fall, including Brazil, Chile, Greece, the Middle East, Peru, Poland, Russia, Turkey, and Venezuela. The toy line is set to launch in Canada, Croatia, Ecuador, and Mexico next year, with additional roll outs expected.

Hallmark Enters Licensing Agreement with A&E’s Duck Dynasty

 A&E Networks Consumer Products and Hallmark Cards Inc. announced a multi-year agreement regarding A&E’s show Duck Dynasty.

The agreement gives Hallmark rights to images, quotes, and sound clips from A&E’s non-fiction series, Duck Dynasty. The series follows the Robertson family, owners and operators of Duck Commander, a duck-hunting supply company in the Louisiana bayou.

Duck Dynasty licensed materials will be featured on Hallmark greeting cards, gift books, stationery, ornaments, gift wrap, and more in the U.S. and Canada. Hallmark subsidiary DaySpring also has rights to use the licensed materials on its products, which are distributed in the Christian retail channel.

Duck Dynasty characters first appeared on Father’s Day greetings available exclusively in select Walmart stores. In July, Hallmark will introduce Duck Dynasty humor cards for everyday occasions, including birthdays, in select Walmart stores. By mid-September, a full display of Duck Dynasty cards, gifts, books, gift wrap, and plastic cups will be available in Walmart stores through the holiday season.

This August, DaySpring will also introduce school supplies featuring Duck Dynasty in select Walmart stores. The line will include spiral notebooks, three-ring binders, composition books, and folders. DaySpring also plans to release a Duck Dynasty wall calendar later in the year.

Paul Frank Teams Up with Parigi Group for Kidswear

Saban Brands and Parigi Group have partnered to create the Small Paul and Paul Frank Children’s collections, available this fall for back-to-school at specialty and department stores nationwide. The collections range from infant to tween for boys and girls, and come in an assortment of styles with classic Paul Frank designs.

Girls’ items feature Julius on hoodies, T-shirts, jackets, and more. Designs include the Cotton Candy Tee, depicting a pink-mustached Julius indulging in the fluffy snack; the classic denim skirt, which features an embroidered Julius on the back pocket; and the scurvy headphones tee, with a skull-and-crossbones Julius wearing headphones against a pink background.

Adventurous boys can don the hiking tee, which features Julius and his gear hiking in the woods. Boys can stay warm and comfy in the classic hoody and matching classic fleece pants, which have coordinating Julius images. Young rock stars will like the Julius Rocks Tee, which features Julius’ head as the body of an electric guitar.

CBS Consumer Products Launches Club CSI Lesson Plans In Classrooms Across the U.S.

CBS Consumer Products, in conjunction with Young Minds Inspired (YMI), is bringing Club CSI to 30,000 classrooms across the U.S. with lesson plans designed to educate and entertain. Aimed at students in grades 4 to 6, the lesson plans use the forensic science made famous by the series to strengthen students’ science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) skills.

The Club CSI activities focus on the events surrounding the disappearance of a class pet, Griffie the guinea pig. Students will evaluate and process a classroom mystery in order to solve the case. The in-school program builds upon a variety of CSI offerings for young fans including the CSI: The Experience exhibits running in cities across the country, the science activity kits exclusively at Toys“R”Us, and the new Club CSI book series.

Animal Planet Taps Ty Global for New Stationery in Canada

Discovery Communications has signed a deal with Ty Global to produce an assortment of Animal Planet-branded stationery and writing products for the Canadian market. The deal was brokered on behalf of Animal Planet by its North-American licensing agent, The Joester Loria Group.

The new product line, which further expands the brand’s lifestyle product offering, will include note pads and cubes, journals, notebooks, three-ring binders, portfolios, pencil pouches, clipboards, dry erase boards, sticker sets and playing cards.Ty Global will target a variety of retail distribution channels for these items in Canada, including key mass and mid-tier retail outlets, department and home stores, specialty chains, and bookstores.
