Mercis B.V., UNIQLO Team Up for Apparel Featuring Miffy


Mercis B.V. and UNIQLO have teamed up for an apparel line featuring Miffy, the classic children’s character based on Dutch artist Dick Bruna’s story books. The spring and summer kids’ range will help mark Miffy’s 60th anniversary this year.

The launch of the Miffy X UNIQLO range will roll out across UNIQLO stores in 15 countries, including Australia, China, France, Germany, Hong Kong and Macau, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Philippines, Russia, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand, the UK, and the U.S.

The range combines Dick Bruna’s illustrative style of minimal black lines contrasting with bright primary colors with UNIQLO’s contemporary approach to clothing design. Miffy’s silhouette is featured throughout. The collection includes girls’ T-shirts and shorts, as well as baby T-shirts, crew neck bodysuits, and pajamas.

MHS Licensing Set to Introduce New Artists at Licensing Expo


To mark its 20th anniversary, MHS Licensing has added Kim Norlien and Courtney Morgenstern to its roster of licensed artists. Norlien is a seasoned veteran of art licensing, while Morgenstern is new to the industry. Both will be introduced at Licensing Expo.

Norlien, a full-time fine artist, is known for his wildlife and landscape paintings. His images can be seen on products such as puzzles, crafts, greeting cards, and gifts.

Morgenstern’s 10 year career has focused on commercial graphic design for greeting cards and paper products.

At Licensing Expo, MHS Licensing will also introduce new images from its other licensed artists. These art properties generate more than $115 million in annual sales through their licensee partners collectively.

MHS Licensing specializes in representing popular artists and advising manufacturers in the search, evaluation, and acquisition of new properties and personalities.

Biltmore Licensing Program Celebrates 25th Anniversary

The Biltmore licensed products program celebrates its 25th anniversary this year. The licensing program includes home furnishings, bath and body products, and gourmet and entertaining. Several Biltmore partners plan to add new merchandise to the program this year. At the April High Point Market, Habersham will expand its offerings to include custom cabinetry for the kitchen and bathroom. Later in the year, at the October High Point Market, Wildwood Lamps will introduce its first Biltmore lighting and decorative accessories collection.

To celebrate its 25th anniversary, Biltmore will conduct a consumer sweepstakes in late summer. The grand-prize winner will receive Biltmore merchandise to create a beautiful master bedroom, and five other silver winners will be awarded a selection of Biltmore products. During this year, Biltmore will continue to build consumer awareness of its licensed products through regular ads in Traditional Home and Southern Lady magazines. Biltmore plans to promote their products and drive consumers to retailers through its website, communicating with guests before and after their visits, and social media activities.

In home furnishings, the current wholesale licensing partner roster includes six companies: Artaissance, paper and canvas wall art; Capel Rugs, area rugs; Fine Furniture Design, furniture and upholstery; Habersham, custom furniture and cabinetry; Larson-Juhl, custom framing; and Wildwood Lamps & Accents, decorative lighting and accessories.

The Fred Rogers Co. Names Suzanne Masri Director, Marketing and Communications

The Fred Rogers Co. has appointed Suzanne Masri as its director of marketing and communications. Masri joins The Fred Rogers Co. following her more than 20-year tenure at WETA Washington, D.C.

In her new role, Masri will oversee the promotion and publicity efforts of the company’s broadcast and digital content, along with events and community outreach, trade announcements, and staff and corporate news. Masri will also manage the marketing and press materials for multiple children’s media properties while maintaining close relationships with key members of the press.

Before joining WETA, Masri spent three years at Claritas Inc. as communications and events coordinator. She holds a BA in History from Smith College in Northampton, Mass.

Bamford Watch Dept. Unveils New Designs Featuring King Features’ Legendary Heroes

Bamford Watch Department (BWD) and DRx (Darren Romanelli) have unveiled their latest collaboration featuring King Features Syndicate’s Flash Gordon and Phantom. The Rolex Explorer II and Submariner Non Date models combine the heritage of classic pop culture with that of the world’s finest timepieces, presented with the high-quality design BWD is known for.

Each design is housed in a presentation box and includes a numbered, custom comic strip poster and steel warranty cards. Phantom also includes hand-crafted rings by The Great Frog. BWD’s Military Grade Titanium Coating (MGTC) ensures that the watches themselves are tough and scratch resistant. The reverse side of each watch features an engraving with the DRx logo and a unique limited-edition number.

FCP, FXX Unveil The Simpsons Kwik-E-Mart Truck

In celebration of the 25th anniversary of the Kwik-E-Mart’s first appearance on The Simpsons, Twentieth Century Fox Consumer Products (FCP) and FXX have declared this year “The Year of the Kwik-E-Mart” and will host a series of activations true to the playful spirit of the longest-running scripted show on TV.

A classic food truck will be transformed into a Kwik-E-Mart on wheels to engage fans nationwide. The first stop on the Kwik-E-Mart Truck Tour will be at South by Southwest (SXSW) in Austin, Texas on March 14 and 15, to kick off SXSW Interactive 2015. Read the rest of this entry »

Licensing Expo Welcomes the World to Las Vegas

Licensing Expo, the world’s largest and most influential licensing industry event, is pleased to welcome new Pavilions and increased representation from countries including Mexico, India, China, Japan and the U.K. Licensing Expo takes place June 9 to 11 at the Mandalay Bay Convention Center in Las Vegas, NV. These new exhibitors join a growing list of international companies and featured Pavilions that include Brazil and Korea, with China and Japan significantly expanding their footprint at the 2015 show.  Brands from more than 35 countries will be represented on the show floor. Sony Pictures Consumer Products Celebrates 50 years of I Dream of Jeannie


This year, I Dream of Jeannie celebrates 50 years since its first release to American households. Sony Pictures Consumer Products is marking the milestone with a licensing program that includes apparel, entertainment, and more.

IGT‘s re-launch of an I Dream of Jeannie Video Slot Machine includes two games and six bonuses. In addition, Sony will release a commemorative high-end fashion doll from Tonner Dolls. The anniversary program will also continue to offer existing categories in die-cast cars from Greenlight Collectibles, costumes from Rubie’s for kids and adults, T-shirts from Trecvo Inc., and home entertainment DVD re-promote of the series across major retailers.

Douglas Co. Celebrates Lassie’s 75th Anniversary


Douglas Co. presents the Lassie Signature Plush Collection in celebration of the TV show’s 75th anniversary.

The large Lassie is 27 inches long, the medium Lassie is 22 inches long, and the small sitting Lassie is 12 inches tall. Lassie’s likeness is replicated in the plush’s signature white blaze on her nose, four white feet, and a full white bib of fur around her neck.

Lassie is an Emmy award-winning TV series, with 11 feature films and a star on Hollywood Walk of Fame.

The Lassie signature plush collection is expected to hit specialty toy and gift store shelves in the U.S. and Canada in April.

LIMA Seeks Input for 2015 Outlook Survey

The Licensing Industry Merchandisers’ Association (LIMA) wants to know your thoughts about how the licensing business will do in the year ahead, and to help paint an accurate picture of the issues, scope, and challenges of the business for next year and 2016. The more people respond, the better the perspective will be on how licensing professionals are viewing the 24 months ahead.
