LIMA Appoints New Members to Board of Directors

LIMALast week, the Licensing Industry Merchandisers’ Association (LIMA) announced the new members of its board of directors. Cindy Levitt, senior vice president of licensing at Hot Topic, BoxLunch, and Her Universe, was elected chairman of the board. Levitt succeeds Ciarán Coyle of Electrolux Global Marketing, who completed a two-year term. Jay Asher, partner at Brandgenuity, was elected as vice chairman, and JJ Ahearn, managing director of Licensing Street LLC, was voted board designate to the executive committee, both for one-year terms.

Additionally, the LIMA membership elected six new members to begin terms on the LIMA board, effective July 1. New members Liza Abrams of Sakar International; Naz Amarchi-Cuevas of SYBO Games; Sam Ferguson of Jazwares; Bill Patterson of OpSec Security Inc.; Jason Sutton of Polaroid; and Takanori Ueno of Laura Ashely Japan Co. WBIE, TT Games, LEGO, DC Entertainment Collaborate for LEGO DC Super-Villains Game

DcSuperVillainsWarner Bros. Interactive Entertainment (WBIE), TT Games, the LEGO Group, and DC Entertainment partnered for the LEGO DC Super-Villains game. The collaboration marks the first time a LEGO game will give players the ability to create and play as their own DC super-villain throughout the game.

In DC Super-Villains, the Justice League has disappeared, leaving earth’s protection to a newcomer group of heroes, the Justice Syndicate. DC super-villains discover the newest heroes may not be the heroes they claim to be. With each player’s completely customizable super-villain character in command, the team of misfit lawbreakers must join forces to discover and foil the evil plans the incognito strangers have in store. Jakks Pacific, Paramount Pictures Partner for Creepy Crawlers Film

Jakks_CreepyCrawlersParamount Players acquired the film rights to Jakks Pacific’s Creepy Crawlers toy brand.

Neal H. Moritz and Marc Gurvitz will produce the film, and Toby Ascher and Stephen Berman will serve as executive producers. Ali Bell and Royce Reeves-Darby will oversee the prpject for Paramount Players,

Production of the film is subject to the conclusion of definitive production agreements among the parties.

Hasbro, Quidd Partner to Create Digital Stickers

Hasbro_4c_noRHasbro Inc. partnered with Quidd Inc. to distribute and sell digital stickers, trading cards, and digital toys through the Quidd app.

Quidd will create, distribute, and sell limited-edition digital stickers, trading cards, and toys from 40 of Hasbro’s brands, including Dungeons & DragonsGI Joe, Nerf, Optimus Prime, Rainbow Dash, and Demogorgon.

The Transformers, My Little Pony, Magic: The Gathering, and Monopoly first edition releases are now available via the Quidd app.

Wildbrain, King Features to Produce Original Popeye Content for Youtube

Wildbrain_PopeyeKing Features Syndicate entered an agreement with WildBrain to manage and produce original Popeye content on YouTube. This marks the first agreement for original Popeye content in more than 10 years, leading to a reimagination of the brand ahead of its 90th anniversary next year.

WildBrain will have worldwide management rights for the Popeye and Friends Official YouTube Channel, and will work with King Features to enhance existing programming. The digital studio will begin by producing new compilations of popular cartoons, including Classic PopeyePopeye and Son, and The Continuing Adventures of Popeye. Read the rest of this entry »

Amazon Introduces Merch Collab

Amazon_MerchCollabAmazon introduced Merch Collab by Amazon at the Licensing Expo Keynote at Licensing Expo in Las Vegas last week.

Merch Collab is a new licensing program where brands collaborate with qualified designers and manufacturers to create a large selection of branded merchandise. Brands approve and promote products, and Amazon tracks the sales and pays out royalties.

Educational Insights, Upright Citizens Brigade Theater Launch Party Game

SculptapaloozaEducational Insights (EI) partnered with Upright Citizens Brigade Theatre (UCB)—founded by comedians Amy Poehler, Matt Walsh, Ian Roberts, and Matt Besser—to create original content in support of the launch of Sculptapalooza, EI’s first party game for adults. The agreement includes a commercial, a webisode, and instructional video.

The game challenges players to sculpt whatever’s shown on the cards they draw using squishy Playfoam (included). As part of the partnership, UCB performers played the game in the streets of NYC.

Merchandise from Funko, Accutime, Fifth Sun, Dark Horse Comics, Underboss, and Just Funky will begin to rollout at retail and continue throughout this year.
