Perth Mint Honors Star Trek with Commemorative Coins

The Perth Mint honors Star Trek: The Original Series with the release of two silver commemorative coins.

As the first coins of the new collector series, these 1-ounce silver proof tributes feature Captain Kirk and the U.S.S. ENTERPRISE NCC-1701 as they appear in the original TV show. The reverse of the Captain Kirk coin portrays a colored image of actor William Shatner as his Star Trek onscreen character, while the reverse of the U.S.S. Enterprise NCC-1701 coin depicts the United Federation of Planets’ logo and a color image of the starship flying through space. The inscription CAPTAIN JAMES T. KIRK, and STAR TREK: THE ORIGINAL SERIES U.S.S. ENTERPRISE NCC-1701, respectively, complete each design, along with The Perth Mint’s traditional P mintmark.

The obverse of each coin depicts the Ian Rank-Broadley effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, the monetary denomination, and the year.

The Perth Mint will issue up to 5,000 of the 2015 Star Trek – Captain James T. Kirk 1-ounce Silver Proof Coins; 5,000 of the 2015 Star Trek—U.S.S. Enterprise NCC-1701 1-ounce Silver Proof Coins; and 1,500 of the 2015 Star Trek Two-Coin Set, which features both colored releases.
