Emerald Expositions to Acquire GLM

Emerald Expositions Inc. has agreed to acquire George Little Management (GLM) from Providence Equity Partners for $335 million, subject to certain adjustments at and after closing.

GLM creates face-to-face buying, selling, and networking platforms for designers, product developers, manufacturers, retailers, and operators through more than 20 leading trade shows. These include four of the largest 100 trade shows in the U.S.

GLM’s trade shows serve industries as diverse as home furnishings, home textiles, stationery and paper products, giftware, tabletop, gourmet housewares, contemporary furniture and interiors, personal care, art and design, and e-commerce. GLM has approximately 130 employees and operates out of six U.S. offices.

The transaction is anticipated to close in January, subject to customary regulatory approvals. The acquisition will be funded with approximately $200 million of debt and a $140 million equity investment from Onex Partners III, which acquired Emerald Expositions in June 2013.

Big Tent Entertainment has signed a new deal with Mighty Fine that will bring Domo designs created by fans to apparel, accessories, cell phone covers, and art prints. Through a fan-driven online contest, Mighty Fine will target Domo fans and newcomers, engaging them to harness their creativity for a completely fan-created and approved line of apparel and accessories.

Beginning in the spring, consumers will be able to submit their own Domo designs at for the chance to be featured on a wide range of products that will be sold at retail stores and pop culture conventions. The winning designs will begin appearing on merchandise in the spring, with a youth apparel line using the designs slated for January 2015. Both Domo and Mighty Fine boast large online communities that will be harnessed for the partnership.

DHX Media Signs Six New Licenses in Asia

Singaporean MediaCorp has signed for broadcasting rights for seasons of Bo on the Go, Adventures in Art, Johnny Test, and Pirates, as well as the first seasons of Shezow, Dino Squad, World of Quest, and Sushi Pack. The deals also cover rights that range from MediaCorp’s on-demand “Toggle” service to free TV rights.

Additionally, Disney Channel Japan picked up Movie Toons; Net Media Global Ltd. took Shelldon for SVOD; M&V Co. Ltd. in South Korea obtained DVD rights for both Caillou and Inspector Gadget; KTH in Korea picked up Super Why, Monster Math Squad, and Animal Mechanicals; and Cheers Media signed for Super Why for the Vietnam and Myanmar territory.

Marvel Partners with C-Preme Ltd. for Active Play Safety Products

Marvel Entertainment LLC and C-Preme Ltd. have partnered for a new line of helmets with 3-D designs that will provide a new entry point into the active play category for Marvel. The products will incorporate bold colors and highly-stylized imagery of Marvel superheroes, including The Avengers and Spider-Man, for helmets and other protective gear. The line will hit retail shelves in February, leading into the release of Marvel’s Captain America: The Winter Soldier in April and Columbia Pictures’ The Amazing Spider-Man 2 in May.

Adorned with 3-D visual features, the line will tap into each character’s core iconography. Thor’s winged helmet will be brought to life and Captain America’s indestructible shield will feature a mesmerizing effect. These designs take a fresh approach in a traditional category by transforming the protective gear into something unexpected, fun, and cool.

The C-Preme helmet line comes on the heels of a recently announced line of Marvel Superhero bicycles and tricycles from Huffy, further enhancing Marvel’s move into the active play category.

Sony Launches 30th Anniversary Merchandising Program for Ghostbusters

Ghostbusters will celebrate its 30th anniversary next year. Sony Pictures Consumer Products (SPCP) will launch a program targeting the core fan base, with products in categories such as apparel, toys, construction, collectibles, and publishing.

SPCP has partnered with pop culture art gallery Gallery 1988 to create a traveling art show designed by top artists, which will include their interpretations of Ghostbusters over the last 30 years. Limited-edition screen prints and posters will be available during each stop of the tour, which will conclude at Comic-Con International in San Diego.

Global toy, publishing, and apparel licensees supporting the 30th anniversary include Mattel, IDW Publishing, World Tech Toys, Quantum Mechanics, Factory Entertainment, Diamond Select, Medicom Toys, Mad Engine, Titan Figures, Uniqlo, Kaientai, and BCI. Partners such as Beeline, Ubisoft, GSN, Path, XMG, and IGT will be supporting with interactive, gaming, and slot machines as well as MDI with state lottery programs. In the collectibles category, Funko will offer pop vinyl collectibles and Underground Toys will provide novelty products.
