AG Properties Launches Two New Properties at Licensing Expo

AG Properties (AGP) introduced the Disney XD series Packages from Planet X at Licensing Expo. The new property, targeting boys ages 7 to 11, gives AGP a presence in this demographic and adds to its roster of characters, including Strawberry Shortcake, Care Bears, and Holly Hobbie. The company has also introduced greeting card brand Boofle.

Packages from Planet X, which debuts in the U.S. on Disney XD on July 13, introduces viewers to 15-year-old Dan Zembrosky, whose ordinary life changes forever the day that strange and wildly powerful packages begin showing up at his front door. AGP will seek out a variety of licensing categories to support the program and its predominantly male audience. Categories to be explored include toys, games, apparel, and back-to-school items.

Boofle, the cuddly and lovable pup, started as a greeting card line and has expanded to more than 15 licensees, including plush, apparel, bedding, jewelry, and candy. After a successful launch in the U.S. at Walmart and other key retailers, AGP has plans to further expand Boofle with products targeting women ages 18 to 40 as well as teens, tweens, and infants worldwide.

Hallmark Enters Licensing Agreement with A&E’s Duck Dynasty

 A&E Networks Consumer Products and Hallmark Cards Inc. announced a multi-year agreement regarding A&E’s show Duck Dynasty.

The agreement gives Hallmark rights to images, quotes, and sound clips from A&E’s non-fiction series, Duck Dynasty. The series follows the Robertson family, owners and operators of Duck Commander, a duck-hunting supply company in the Louisiana bayou.

Duck Dynasty licensed materials will be featured on Hallmark greeting cards, gift books, stationery, ornaments, gift wrap, and more in the U.S. and Canada. Hallmark subsidiary DaySpring also has rights to use the licensed materials on its products, which are distributed in the Christian retail channel.

Duck Dynasty characters first appeared on Father’s Day greetings available exclusively in select Walmart stores. In July, Hallmark will introduce Duck Dynasty humor cards for everyday occasions, including birthdays, in select Walmart stores. By mid-September, a full display of Duck Dynasty cards, gifts, books, gift wrap, and plastic cups will be available in Walmart stores through the holiday season.

This August, DaySpring will also introduce school supplies featuring Duck Dynasty in select Walmart stores. The line will include spiral notebooks, three-ring binders, composition books, and folders. DaySpring also plans to release a Duck Dynasty wall calendar later in the year.

Mimoco Partners with Comedy Central for USB Drives

Mimoco announced its newest licensing partnership with Comedy Central. The co-branded collaboration with the network brings limited edition USB flash drives for the scripted series Workaholics and other Comedy Central properties in Mimobot form.

In 2005 Mimoco launched their company and Mimobot brand of USB flash drives. Mimoco is launching eight limited-edition Mimobot flash drives, one for each year of its existence.

Mimoco kicks off the celebration with Blake from Workaholics and other Comedy Central properties as Mimobot flash drives, each in hand-numbered runs of 1,000 units or less, in up to 128GB capacities, as well as in USB3.0 speeds. Like other Mimobot drives, these will be preloaded with bonus digital Mimory including the MimoDesk personalization suite of wallpapers, icons, avatars, exclusive MimoByte sound software unique to each character, and more content such as story boards and digital clips from the television shows. Mezco Toyz Reveals Cheetara and Snarf Mega Deluxe 2 Pack

Mezco revealed details of its summer exclusives for the Cheetara and Snarf Deluxe 2 Pack. This multipack features Cheetara, the Thundarian noble, and Snarf, the sidekick of the Thundercats.

This version of Cheetara features glow-in-the-dark eyes. It also has 10 points of articulation, capturing Cheetara as she appeared in the television series.

Five New Members Elected to the LIMA Board of Directors

The International Licensing Industry Merchandisers’ Association (LIMA) has announced the appointment of five new members to its Board of Directors. The new members are Mike Brown, Vice President of Licensing and Partnership Management at American Greetings; Marilu Corpus, President and Chief Executive Officer at Click! Licensing Asia Inc.; Paul Flett, Brand Management and Licensing Agent at United Talent Agency; Christian Fortmann, Managing Partner at 24 IP Law Group; and Darran Garnham, Chief Business Development Officer at Mind Candy. The five executives were elected to three-year terms beginning this July.

Brown is a member of LIMA, and has served as Vice President of Licensing and Partnership Management at American Greetings since 2005. He oversees rights acquisitions for intellectual property opportunities in North America, the UK, Australia, and New Zealand. Brown joined American Greetings in 1999 as Vice President of Licensing for Inbound and Outbound Licensing after a career with at Western Publishing, Beach Products, Contempo Colors, and Keebler.

Corpus returns to the LIMA Board after serving from 2007­-2010, and has 29 years of international licensing and marketing experience. In 1998, Corpus founded Click! Licensing Asia in the Philippines, and has managed properties that range from lifestyle and entertainment to educational brands.

Flett has 25 years of experience in media, licensing, consumer marketing, and sales. He is currently the Brand Management and Licensing Agent for the United Talent Agency in Beverly Hills. He manages existing brands, acquires and develops new ones, and develops international opportunities for the agency’s talent roster. Prior to joining United Talent Agency, Flett was the Senior Vice President of Licensing for Skechers USA Inc. During his three-year tenure there, he expanded the licensee base from five to 58 licensees, established a global agent network, and executed an alliance with Li & Fung. During his career, Flett has held senior positions at Warner Bros. Consumer Products, Munchkin Inc., Sega Europe, Mattel, L’Oréal, and Nestle.

Fortmann holds a Master of Laws (LLM) degree in Intellectual Property Litigation. Fortmann has been an active member of LIMA Germany for more than 12 years, and, more recently, has been active in the U.S. and UK in various functions, including as a speaker and panelist in conferences and webinars.

Garnham is in charge of developing and implementing Mind Candy’s global licensing strategy and has experience in IP management including, TV, film, entertainment, and lifestyle brands. He currently manages the off-line expansion of Mind Candy’s Moshi Monsters brand and has experience in international product distribution and manufacturing opportunities. Prior to joining Mind Candy, Garnham was responsible for establishing and managing a network of offices throughout 22 countries in Eastern Europe and CIS for Kidz Entertainment, where he managed a portfolio of licensing rights for brands such as 20th Century Fox, BBC Worldwide, DreamWorks, Lego, Paramount, and Sony.

The Joester Loria Group and Upstart Launch The Very Ready Reading Program

Upstart  has been licensed by The Joester Loria Group, representation for The World of Eric Carle, to develop The Very Ready Reading Program. The Very Ready Reading program is an early literacy program for children from birth through age five, and will feature The Very Hungry Caterpillar, along with other iconic artwork by Eric Carle.

The Very Ready Reading Program was developed by early literacy experts Sue McCleaf Nespeca, M.Ed., MLS and Dr. Pam Schiller. Nespeca developed the 7 Days  7 Ways principles. Based on current research, the seven principles highlight early literacy activities that caregivers can integrate into their daily schedules. The seven principles build upon each other in a natural progression. Beginning with sharing books, it is recommended to share sounds, words, rhymes, stories, songs, and playtime.

For each program, there is a sturdy presenter’s card that contains all of the rhymes and songs, and a parent tip sheet that includes suggested activities to reinforce learning at home. Bazooka Candy Brands Lands New Partnership

Bazooka Candy Brands has inked a new partnership deal with Universal Pictures and Illumination Entertainment to debut limited-edition candy, part of a multi-national, multi-platform merchandising program in support of Despicable Me 2. Bazooka Candy Brands will support the program with a Minion-themed TV and online advertising campaign.

As part of the campaign, Bazooka Candy Brands will feature two new online destinations at The program will also include limited-edition versions of Bazooka Candy Brands’ top-selling candies including Ring Pop, Juicy Drop Pop, Jumbo Push Pop, and Baby Bottle Pop and the re-launch of a favorite flavor with a movie tie-in and Minion-themed wraps. Sanrio and Moxi Roller Skates Launch Partnership

Sanrio and Moxi Roller Skates have announced a co-brand partnership. Starting June 27, Hello Kitty and Moxi will release their roller skates and custom wheels featuring Hello Kitty. The collection will be available at, and, as well as in roller rinks and select retailers nationwide.

Through the partnership, co-branded items including Hello Kitty roller skates and glitter outdoor roller skating wheels will be available for purchase in stores nationwide and throughout Canada. The partnership between Sanrio and Moxi Roller Skates is the first of its kind for the roller skating industry.
