Mercury Filmworks, Technicolor, and Teletoon will co-develop Atomic Puppet as a 2-D animated comedy series targeting kids 6 to 11. In Atomic Puppet, when Model City’s fearless superhero is transformed into a powerless puppet by his disgruntled sidekick, the hero’s powers are accidentally transferred to his biggest fan, 12-year-old Joey Felt. Together, the two form an awkward and comedic partnership as they strive to become the city’s greatest superhero team.

Kidz Bop has announced that 15-year-old Dallas Wayde is the grand prize winner of its annual Kidz Star USA Talent Search, America’s biggest national talent competition for kids ages 15 and under. As part of the grand prize, Wayde won a recording contract from RCA Records. The Kidz Star USA Grand Finale event, showcasing Dallas’s win, can be seen on VEVO.

Nearly 50,000 kids in the U.S. entered the competition by uploading a 90-second performance video to Kidz Bop teamed up with Electus to produce the Kidz Star USA webisodes. The series followed the Top 8 Kidz Star USA finalists to Hollywood as they faced off in a series of musical challenges to win a RCA Records recording contract.

Bo, the Take Care Bear, Starts Work at UH Rainbow Babies & Children’s Hospital as New Mascot

American Greetings Properties has partnered with Rainbow to bring University Hospitals Rainbow Babies & Children’s Hospital a new mascot. Bo, the Take Care Bear, is now the Bear-in-Residence and the newest member of the UH Rainbow Care Team. Bo’s mission is to help make children feel better and to brighten their days by giving hugs.

Bo will join the doctors, nurses, and the entire staff of pediatric specialists on the Rainbow Care Team to enhance Rainbow’s nurturing, family-centered environment of kindness and caring that puts young patients at ease, which helps them to heal faster.

Bo’s first day included a formal introduction, a badging ceremony where Bo received his official UH name badge, a sneak peek at the special Elisabeth & Quentin Alexander Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) family donation of plush Care Bears, a commemorative NICU Family Calendar, a sibling coloring book, and everyone’s first look at Bo’s baseball card and cake. Kids in attendance received special Care Bears goody bags and plenty of hugs from Bo.

WOW to Produce RSPCA Toys and Activity Sheets for the Preschool Market

The RSPCA has awarded a licence to WOW Toys to produce a range of toys for the preschool market. My Pocket Pets are cute, collectible RSPCA animal figure packs, suitable for children aged 18 months and up.

Each pack contains an adorable animal figure and an RSPCA activity sheet that includes fun activities, such as dot-to-dot games, coloring, an RSPCA cartoon, and an RSPCA information section about animal welfare. There are six animal figures in the series: Pippi the pooch, Socks the cat, Clarissa the cow, Patch the pig, Wiggles the Dalmatian, and Jenny the horse.

RSPCA My Pocket Pets will be available in February in the UK, including Waterstones, Tesco, WH Smiths, Tesco Direct, Amazon, and participating RSPCA outlets. The toys will also be listed in garden centres and independent toy shops, as well as a number of post offices and newsagents, through WOW Toys’ wholesale network. The agreement is for five years.

Season one of Driftwood Bay is in production, with delivery slated for next spring. Driftwood Bay follows the imaginative adventures of five-year-old Lily, who lives in a beach hut with her dad on an island. The series is inspired by the artwork of Joanne Carmichael. Storylines encourage youngsters to create their own fun and adventures by finding inspiration from the everyday and unusual items that appear in their lives.

The Jim Henson Company Appoints Wild Pumpkin as Pajanimals Licensing Agent for Australia and New Zealand

The Jim Henson Company has appointed Wild Pumpkin as the licensing agent for its Pajanimals pre-school series in Australia and New Zealand. A co-production with The Jim Henson Company, 24-hour preschool channel Sprout, and Sixteen South Television, Pajanimals airs on ABC in Australia and TVNZ in New Zealand. The series premiered last February on ABC2.

The Pajanimals series follows the adventures of four characters—each designed and built by Jim Henson’s Creature Shop, from original concepts by Jeff Muncy. Through their imaginary journeys, these cuddly musical puppets venture out on a journey of discovery, modeling the skills preschoolers need to move through their days successfully, and helping parents establish a bedtime routine for their children.

m4e’s Leo Lausemaus Finds a Home at Super RTL

The new CGI preschool series Leo Lausemaus has reached a deal that will see the series broadcast by Super RTL in 2014. In addition to the TV-rights, Super RTL will handle the German-speaking licensing and merchandising program on behalf of m4e AG. The 52-episode series is currently produced by Studio Bozzetto, Studio Campedelli, March Entertainment, the Giunti, and RAI Fiction, in cooperation with m4e.

The series is based on the children’s books of the same name, by Italian author Andrea Dami.
