Big Idea Entertainment Expands Digital Programming for VeggieTales

Big Idea Entertainment plans to expand digital programming for its VeggieTales brand this year. The company has partnered with mobile kid-play experts Playful Own and marketing company GorillaSpot to create more apps for fans.

VeggieTales is the first property to launch with Playful Owl’s Step-by-Story, a mobile app that promotes reading readiness through word, picture, and sound association. Step-By-Story, available for andriod, iPhone, and iPad, lets children create their own animated short story by offering 500 different story combinations.  VeggieTales has already launched VeggieTales: The Goofy Gift and VeggieTales: Larry’s Missing Music, and will release six more titles throughout the year.

VeggieTales e-cards will also be available to fans later this year. ReelCards, powered by GorillaSpot, will create a Facebook application that allows fans to send personalized video cards using short clips from popular VeggieTales titles. GorillaSpot hopes to make this a mobile app for andriods and iPhones by this summer.

VeggieTales’ New Easter DVD

Big Idea Entertainment, a faith-based studio and producer of children and family programming, characters and brands, will release their first new Easter holiday DVD in seven years, VeggieTales: ‘Twas The Night Before Easter, on March 5 and March 8, in Christian and general market stores, respectively.

‘Twas The Night Before Easter, which features a new character, Cassie Cassava, voiced by American Idol finalist Melinda Doolittle, examines the importance of helping others while exploring the real meaning of Easter. The title’s launch is supported by a marketing and advertising campaign with licensing and promotional partners including Gund, Toys “R” Us, Walmart, Target, American Greetings Interactive, Frankford Candy & Chocolate, and American Puzzle Company.

“There’s never ever been a show like VeggieTales,” and now fans can enjoy the live experience with the VeggieTales Live! Sing Yourself Silly! tour. VeggieTales characters take to the stage this fall to perform for audiences in more than 37 cities.

The tour kicks off on September 28 in Shreveport, Louisiana before heading to cities such as Atlanta, Chicago, Dallas, Houston, Louisville, Nashville, Orlando, Washington, D.C., and Birmingham, just to name a few. As official sponsors of the VeggieTales Live! Sing Yourself Silly! tour, Big Idea will partner with World Vision. Big Idea will facilitate child sponsorship efforts with World Vision during each show through a video presentation and sponsor cards. Through World Vision’s child sponsorship efforts, countless lives have changed for individual children and their entire communities by providing access to things like clean water, health care, education, and hope for a better future.

Fan favorite songs in the live performance include classic silly songs such as “His Cheeseburger,” “I Love My Lips,” “Oh, Where is My Hairbrush,” “The Water Buffalo Song,” and the original, never-before-heard silly song “My Bear,” featured on the brand new VeggieTales: It’s A Meaningful Life DVD coming this fall.

Big Idea Teams With Eyes of Faith for Eyewear Deal

Eyes of Faith Optical has announced a new licensing agreement with faith-based Big Idea Entertainment. Under the new agreement, Eyes of Faith will design a new line of VeggieTales children’s eyewear, which will have wholesale distribution through independently owned and operated optical practices.

Eyes of Faith pledges that 10 percent of every dollar it takes in will go to “reputable organizations” and missionary work, making it a natural partner for Big Idea, according to Brian Mitchell, Big Idea Entertainment’s Director of Marketing & Licensing. “This is the first ever VeggieTales license for children’s eyewear and Eyes of Faith is the perfect partner with not only quality products, but a heart for philanthropy. Their mission of giving back to those in need with every purchase lines up perfectly with Big Idea Entertainment’s values,” he says.
