Sesame Workshop announced a new phase of the autism initiative Sesame Street and Autism: See Amazing in All Children, which welcomes Julia, a Muppet with autism. Julia was introduced last year in digital form and will come to life as a Muppet, in addition to a release of resources designed to increase awareness and understanding of autism.
The See Amazing library will add digital videos, books, and e-books, which will be available in English and Spanish. The “Meet Julia” special episode airs on next month on HBO and PBS KIDS in the U.S. and around the world on Cartoonito UK, Australia’s ABC network, and Mexico’s Televisa, with worldwide rollout planned within the year. DHX Media signed an exclusive deal with ZDF to launch season one of its new Teletubbies series on children’s channel KiKA in Germany. The launch builds on the original version of the preschool series that first aired in Germany in 1999.
The global licensing program for the new Teletubbies series is growing rapidly, with more than 85 partners signed to date. The series follows the same four characters and styling as the original show, but brings a contemporary look and feel to the preschool properties. The series has been picked up by 24 broadcasters worldwide, as well as Amazon Prime Video in the U.K., where the commissioning broadcaster is CBeebies.
Entertainment One (eOne) outlined plans to strengthen its brands in Latin America with a new appointment to manage its portfolio for TV properties including, Peppa Pig, Ben & Holly’s Little Kingdom, and PJ Masks.
Bruna Sawada joins the company in the newly created role of regional territory manager – Brazil and will report directly to London-based Murilo Hinojosa. Hinojosa leads consumer products for the entire Latin American region. Read the rest of this entry »
Miffy,The Miffy’s World app, based on Dick Bruma’s classic white bunny, launched a new app for iOS today. The app is be available to buy from the App Store and will soon be available to download from Google Play. The app was created by StoryToys, an independent developer and publisher of children’s apps. Thomas & Friends, from Mattel Inc., kicked off its first global brand campaign with a year-long marketing program, Set Friendship in Motion.
The campaign aims to help preschoolers strengthen friendship skills, such as collaboration, communication, sharing, manners, kindness, and the abilities to express and understand feelings and emotions. UK and LA based independent film and TV producer Komixx Entertainment Ltd. secured a development deal with BBC Worldwide for Stanley the Can-Do Hamster. The animated TV series is based on the Stanley picture books by children’s author and illustrator William Bee.
BBC Worldwide will be the executive producers on the animated series and have exclusive rights to all other IP business rights globally, including transmitting the series on their worldwide Cbeebies channels. Sprout will expand its growing original programming lineup with the addition of Remy and Boo. The series will premiere on Sprout next year.
Set in the near future, Remy and Boo is a CGI- animated series that tells the story of the friendship between five-year-old Remy and her newfound robot friend Boo, who is programmed to learn and feel real emotions. The show follows their journey of love, friendship, and what it truly means to be human.
Sprout also announced second seasons of two of its originals. Floogals will go into production with Nevision for a season 2 launch next year. The network will also move forward with Nina’s World with a season 2 greenlight for 26 new episodes. Read the rest of this entry »
This year, Sesame Workshop will launch Spread Kindness, #ShareTheLaughter, a year-long global multimedia campaign. During the campaign, kids will find kindness-themed episodes on the 47th season of Sesame Street on HBO and PBS KIDS, as well as new and classic videos and songs that will stream on social media channels and celebrate kindness. Dot To Dot Productions will produce the new 2-D-animated preschool series School of Roars. CBeebies acquired the series in the UK, and Sprout acquired the series in the U.S. ZDF Enterprises will handle worldwide distribution, and Creative Europe will handle further investment in the production.
School of Roars follows five mini monsters through their school day as they learn “monstery lessons” in math, music, cooking, and life. The show will be supported by interactive elements including game apps, story apps, and a website.
School of Roars will be animated at Dot To Dot’s in-house studio and is expected to air this year. Other shows that will be completed at the studio include CBeebies’ mixed media project, Footy Pups, which was also created by Dot To Dot.
