TCG Extends Collection with New Licensees for Puzzles, Games, Accessories

TCG_HometownCollectionTCG (formerly known as The Canadian Group) will grow its product offerings to include a wide range of puzzles, games, and play accessories featuring licenses for kids and families.

The company acquired the Hometown trademark, featuring the work of folk artist Harry Wysocki, also known as Heronim. In addition, TCG expands into home décor for the first time with its new Tidy Town line of storage and play units inspired by kids’ properties. Parragon Expands Publishing Program Featuring Disney Franchises In North America

Parragon will publish a range of coloring, sticker, and activity books across multiple Disney franchises in the North American market starting next year. Franchises will include Frozen, Disney Princess, Disney Princess Palace Pets, and familiar characters from existing and upcoming Disney-Pixar films.

Parragon will introduce new-to-market designs, features such as cover-mounted gifts, activity sets, and a variety of series including 1,000 Stickers, Copy Coloring with chunky, double-ended crayons, Jumbo Activity Packs, and premium Sticker Treasuries.

Parragon now publishes books featuring Disney franchises in more than 35 countries and recently announced plans to launch a new publishing program in Scandinavia.

Editor’s Point: Princesses on the Move

Licensing is a tricky business, filled with surprises and ups and downs. As I write this column, we are abuzz over Disney Consumer Products’ decision to take its Disney Princess doll license from Mattel and grant the rights to Hasbro beginning in 2016. This is a major move, and one that harkens back to Sesame Workshop’s decision to move its Sesame Street license from Mattel to Hasbro in 2011.
Disney Princess is one of the top toy licenses in the U.S., and Mattel seems to be handling the license well. Mattel is a huge player in the doll market. Despite Barbie’s recent downward trajectory, she is still one of the top fashion dolls of all time. Not to mention Mattel’s unbelieveable success with Monster High and, now, Ever After High. The main difference here is that Mattel owns these brands, and licenses them out in various categories, but creates the dolls and related entertainment content in-house. Disney Consumer Products and Marvel Entertainment Reveal Creativity Studio Stylus and App for iPad

Disney Consumer Products and Marvel Entertainment have launched the Marvel Creativity Studio Stylus and App, created by eKids, exclusively for iPad. The app delivers a creative space for kids to learn to draw, color, and animate their favorite Marvel Super Heroes and villains from Avengers AssembleThe Ultimate Spider-Man and Hulk and the Agents of S.M.A.S.H., while the stylus adds enhanced play value.

In addition to the launch of the Marvel Creativity Studio Stylus and App, the Disney Creativity Studio app has received a content refresh with more drawing tools to use, so kids can now create drawings of other Disney characters including Disney Junior’s Sofia the FirstDoc McStuffins, and Jake and the Never Land Pirates, as well as Monsters University and Disney Princess characters.

The Stylus, which includes unlimited access to all content and future updates, is available at mass retailers.
