Mattel Announces Little People Series Launching on Sprout

Mattel’s Little People series will be available on Sprout’s TV in March. The series is based on the original Fisher Price brand and is recommended for children ages 2 to 5. Little People is an animated musical/comedy series that celebrates the power of play. The ‘little people’ learn that building on one another’s ideas is the best way to have fun.

The Little People Series 1 has already been sold to several broadcasters around the world including Cartoonito, RTL, Discovery Kids, E-TV, TV Cultura, and Televisa.

Discovery Consumer Products Names Felicia Tuan Regional Director for Asia-Pacific

Discovery Consumer Products (DCP) named Felicia Tuan regional director for Asia-Pacific. In her new role Tuan will be responsible for developing and overseeing the licensing business for Discovery Communications’ portfolio of TV properties including, Discovery Expedition, Discovery Kids, and Animal Planet.

Previously, Tuan served as the e-commerce regional sales director at Collinson Latitude Agency. She has also served as a director for Partnership Marketing Agency, Mediacorp, MTV Asia, MTV Networks, and Bear, Stearns & Co.

Discovery Consumer Products Names Doris Miller Vice President, Global Retail Sales and Business Development

In her new role, Miller will collaborate with the global licensing division to expand, grow, and develop retail strategies, and extend key North American accounts on a global scale. She will continue to play an important role in the overall strategic planning for the business across North America, Asia, Europe, and Latin America.

Miller will also extend the retail reach for Discovery Channel, Animal Planet, TLC, and Discovery Kids, and focus on retail strategies for Discovery Expedition, Discovery Adventures, and Doki, a character brand on-air in Latin America.

Joining Discovery Consumer Products last summer, Miller is a seasoned executive in the industry and brings her experience as a strategic leader, sales driver, and brand ambassador to the company.

Discovery Kids Latin America Signs On to Broadcast ‘Mike the Knight’

Nelvana Enterprises has finalized a deal with Discovery Kids Latin America for the broadcast of the CG-animated preschool series Mike the Knight.  The series is set to air on the network in Latin America in Spanish and Portuguese in the coming months.

Mike the Knight follows a young knight-in-training on a series of quests and adventures throughout the medieval land of Glendragon. Mike brings the excitement and enchantment of medieval times into the life of modern preschoolers.  The series is co-produced by Nelvana and HIT Entertainment.

The series airs on major broadcasters in the U.S. (Nickelodeon and Nick Jr.), Canada (Treehouse), UK (Cbeebies), Australia (ABC) and France (TF1), and is set to launch in more than 20 territories in the coming months. 

Discovery Communications Teams with NKOK for New Toy Line

Discovery Communications, Inc., announced today a licensing agreement with NKOK, Inc., for the Discovery Kids brand. Through the agreement, NKOK will develop a collection of branded radio-controlled and interactive products inspired by Discovery Kids, a real-world entertainment property for kids. The collection is designed to encourage kids to learn about and interact with the world around them.

NKOK, which has created popular products for pop culture brand icons such as Halo, Hello Kitty, Smurfs, Shrek, and Sonic, will create a line of Discovery Kids branded radio-controlled stunt vehicles and the Shooting Robo Warrior Robot.

In addition to the radio-controlled products, NKOK will also release a line of Discovery Kids-branded non-RC products including a Trace-n-Draw Projector, Space Coaster Construction Rollercoaster, Sewing Machine, and Space Ship Laser Tag. Product will be available at toy, mid-tier, and mass retailers throughout the United States and Canada beginning this fall.

“We are inspired by the potential this license has for our current 2011 items and the new 2012 development, which will be shared during the Fall Toy Preview Show in Dallas, October 4-6,” says Jason Rey, director of licensing and development for NKOK, Inc.

The deal was brokered on behalf of Discovery Communications by Big Tent Entertainment, the North American licensing agent for the Discovery Kids brand.

Discovery Kids Property Expands Licensing Program With New Home Textile Licensees

Discovery Communications, Inc., the world’s number one nonfiction media company, formed new licensing deals with home textiles leader, Franco and Cosrich Group, Inc., the leader in licensed health and beauty products. The new lines will be part of Discovery Kids branded products, the No. 1 real-world entertainment brand for kids.

Through the long-term agreements, Franco has signed on to produce a comprehensive line of bedroom and bath accessories while Cosrich will create an array of children’s bath activity sets. The deal was brokered on behalf of Discovery Communications by Big Tent Entertainment, the North American licensing agent for the Discovery Kids brand.

The collection created by Franco will feature rugs, draperies, blankets, bath and beach towels, throw blankets, and vinyl place mats. The bath activity products from Cosrich will include soap, body wash, bubble bath, shampoo, bath crayons, sponges, stone paper sheets, fizzing bath rocks, and foam pieces for kids, using eco-friendly materials and packaging. Product will be available at mid-tier and mass retailers throughout the United States and Canada beginning holiday 2011.
