Massive Monster Mayhem Adds International Broadcasters

massive monster maniaDHX Media added five broadcasters for season one of Massive Monster Mayhem, including Lagardère’s Gulli TV and Canal J in France, TVE’s Clan in Spain, CiTV in the UK, and ABC in Australia. Global distribution for Massive Monster Mayhem is handled by DHX Media, and the series is expected to roll out in these territories this year.

Massive Monster Mayhem launched on Nicktoons in the U.S. and Family Channel in Canada last fall. The consumer products licensing for Massive Monster Mayhem is managed by DHX Brands, with Alpha Group as global toy licensee, excluding Asia. Toys based on the series will launch at retail this fall.

Sony Acquires Stake in DHX Media’s Peanuts

peanutsDHX Media and Sony Music Entertainment (Japan) Inc. (SMEJ) agreed that SMEJ will indirectly purchase 49 percent of DHX Media’s 80 percent interest in Peanuts for $185 million in cash, subject to customary working capital adjustments. Pro forma for the transaction, DHX Media will own 41 percent of Peanuts, SMEJ will own 39 percent, and the members of the family of Charles M. Schulz will continue to own 20 percent.

DHX Media and SMEJ have also agreed to extend the duration of the current Licensing and Syndication Agency agreement with SMEJ’s consumer products division, Sony Creative Products Inc. in Japan.

 

Peanuts Appoints CPLG as Licensing Agent in Greece and Turkey

PeanutsWorldwidePeanuts Worldwide appointed CPLG as the licensing agent for the Peanuts brand in Greece and Turkey. CPLG’s existing representation of the Peanuts brand in the UK, France, Spain, Portugal, and the Middle East will expand.

CPLG will oversee Peanuts’ licensing presence in these territories across a range of products, including apparel, toys, food, beverage, and publishing. Both CPLG and Peanuts Worldwide are subsidiaries of DHX Media.

The Jim Henson Co. Appoints Shane Mang as Executive Director of Global Consumer Products

The portfolio includes Dot., Dinosaur Train, Doozers, Splash and Bubbles, and Word Party. Mang will also oversee programs for FarscapeFraggle Rock, Labyrinth, and The Dark Crystal. Mang joins The Jim Henson Co. from DHX Media where he served as business development manager.

DHX Media Makes New Executive Appointments

DHX_ExecsDHX Media appointed Aaron Ames to the position of chief operating officer (COO), Josh Scherba to president, and Anne Loi to the newly created role of chief commercial officer (CCO). DHX Media co-founder Steven DeNure will transition out of his role as president and COO within the next month.

In his role as COO, Ames will be responsible for the overall operations of the company and will oversee its broadcast channels, DHX Television, and its licensing agency, CPLG. As President Scherba will oversee the content business, including development, production, and distribution, as well as its YouTube-based kids’ network, WildBrain. As CCO, Loi will oversee key external partnerships, content production and financing, and business analytics.

Peanuts Worldwide Names CPLG Agent in France and UK

PeanutsWorldwidePeanuts Worldwide appointed CPLG as the licensing agent for the Peanuts in France and the United Kingdom, effective January 1, and in the Middle East, effective immediately. CPLG will oversee the Peanuts licensing program across a wide range of product categories including apparel, toy, food and beverage, and publishing. Peanuts Worldwide and CPLG are both subsidiaries of DHX Media.

Peanuts Worldwide, Cedar Fair Extend Peanuts Licensing Agreement

PeanutsPeanuts Worldwide, a subsidiary controlled by DHX Media Ltd., and Cedar Fair L.P. renewed the license agreement to feature the Peanuts characters—created by Charles M. Schulz—throughout Cedar Fair’s 11 amusement park locations. The new agreement extends Cedar Fair’s North American exclusive use of Peanuts in its attractions, entertainment and sports, food and beverage, lodging, and retail operations to 2025. An added five-year option, exercisable at Cedar Fair’s discretion, brings the potential contract extension to 2030.

 

Teletubbies, Barnardo’s Partner for Big Toddle Charity Event

Teletubbies_BigToddleDHX Brands joined children’s charity Barnardo’s in this year’s Big Toddle as part of their ongoing partnership. DHX Brands’ Teletubbies will support the event, which launched on June 19. Both Teletubbies and The Big Toddle are celebrating their 20th anniversaries this year.

The Big Toddle helps nurseries and parents arrange their own walks for preschoolers throughout the UK during the summer season. Since the Teletubbies support began this year, there has been a 33 percent increase in the number of nurseries and parents that sign up.
