Rovio Entertainment Expands Angry Birds Licensees

New licensees include Brown Trout for calendar; FAB NY for backpacks, luggage, lunch bags, wallets, coin cases, and more; and Wells Dairy for character-shaped ice cream and water-ice confections. Licensees that will extend their relationship with Rovio include Crocs for footwear, Komar Kids for sleepwear, Inkology for stationery, and Ziegenfelder for frozen novelty confections. Rovio Entertainment, Iron Maiden Partner for Angry Birds Evolution Halloween Edition

ABEvolution_EddieRovio Entertainment will feature Iron Maiden in a special Halloween version of Angry Birds Evolution. Eddie—the mascot of Iron Maiden—will be a playable character as Eddie the Bird in Angry Birds Evolution this Halloween season. In this two-week character event beginning October 18, players who recruit Eddie the Bird to their team will be able to keep him as a player permanently.

There will be four evolutions of the character to represent different albums from Iron Maiden. In addition, the Bird Island will be transformed into a Halloween-themed, heavy metal oasis full of tributes to Eddie, Iron Maiden, and the heavy metal universe. Read the rest of this entry »

Rovio Entertainment, Everton Enter Multi-Year Shirt Sleeve Partnership

AngryBirds_EvertonRovio Entertainment Corporation and Everton, the English Premier League Club, signed a multi-year shirt sleeve partnership. Beginning September 17, Angry Birds will be an official shirt sleeve partner for Everton.

The Premier League sports league has more than 1.5 billion global viewers in more than 200 territories, and Rovio has 80 million monthly active users. The partnership will bring together fans from these two communities to participate in collaborative content in the Angry Birds games and co-branded fan merchandise.

Rovio Entertainment, YouTube to Launch New Episodes of Angry Birds Blues Series

AngryBirdsBluesRovio Entertainment will premiere new episodes of the animated series Angry Birds Blues on YouTube and YouTube Kids beginning September 14. The episodes will be released simultaneously in the U.S. and territories worldwide.

The new episodes follow the antics of Jay, Jim and Jake, the adorable blue bird triplets known as The Blues, and their zany adventures with one another and sometimes, the Hatchlings. Episodes will debut twice per week on YouTube and YouTube Kids.

Rovio’s Revenue Increased by 94 Percent in the Second Quarter

rovioRovio Entertainment Ltd.’s growth continued in the second quarter of this year, with the company’s revenue increasing to EUR 86.2 million. The year-on-year revenue increase was 94.0 percent, mainly due to the performance of Rovio’s games, and the revenue from The Angry Birds Movie release last May. During second quarter, Rovio also launched two new games: Battle Bay and Angry Birds Evolution.

The revenue of the games business unit increased by 65.0 percent and amounted to EUR 61.3 million. The growth was driven by a 30 percent increase in the number of monthly paying users, and a 51 percent increase in revenue per monthly paying user.

The revenue of the brand licensing business unit increased by 242.6 percent to EUR 24.9 million. The strong revenue growth was also due to revenues from The Angry Birds Movie. Read the rest of this entry »

Rovio’s Angry Birds Evolution Now Available for Download

AngryBirdsEvolutionRovio Entertainment’s new Angry Birds Evolution puts a spin on the Angry Birds brand, featuring eastern-style RPG mechanics and console quality graphics. The reimagined and redesigned birds let players collect, train, and evolve them.

Rovio, in co-operation with Chimera Entertainment, created more than 100 new birds with multiple evolution states, some modeled after 80s action characters and comic book heroes.

The game is now available to download for free on the App Store and Google Play.

Rovio Entertainment appointed Evolution as its licensing agent in the U.S., focusing on consumer products and retail expansion. Evolution will represent Rovio’s ongoing Angry Birds initiatives for merchandising, promotions, and retail opportunities, while looking to focus on the Hatchlings, the newest addition to the franchise, for next year.

In a separate but related announcement, Simo Hämäläinen was named senior vice president, brand licensing for Rovio Entertainment.

Rovio Entertainment and Mikael Hed Honored with Hulda Award for The Angry Birds Movie

angry birdsRovio Entertainment and Mikael Hed, executive producer of The Angry Birds Movie, received the Finnish Audiovisual Export Award Hulda. The award is presented annually by Audiovisual Finland and honors excellence in creative industry export.

The Angry Birds Movie is the most internationally successful Finnish film of all time and is also the second highest-grossing movie based on a game. The award was presented by Finland’s minister of economic affairs Mika Lintilä at the annual Finnish film industry event Jussi Gaala, which took place last Friday.
