  HBO Unveils New Game of Thrones Merchandise at Comic–Con

HBO has debuted new licensed merchandise for the series Game of Thrones at San Diego Comic–Con. Products include The Game of Thrones Comic–Con Exclusive Pop! Ned Stark Figurine, available at HBO online, and the Dark Horse Comics Game of Thrones Figures, which include the prototype figures for Jon Snow and Daenerys Targaryen slated for a January 2014 release, as well as three additional figures, Tyrion Lannister, Khal Drogo, and Ned Stark that will follow in early May, with a wave of five more characters coming late next summer. Additional products include Game of Thrones: A Pop-Up Guide to Westeros, from Insight Editions; a 4D Puzzle Map of Westeros, from 4D Cityscape; and Game of Thrones plush, from Factory Entertainment, set to debut late this year and early next year.

  Cartoon Network and Lego Join for Mixels

Cartoon Network and The Lego Group have collaborated on a new global entertainment franchise, Mixels.

Launching next year, Mixels is a franchise of integrated family entertainment from the two giants. The new venture will feature animated content (primarily shorts), a digital gaming experience, a collectible building toy concept, and more.

"This is the next step in the evolution of Cartoon Network Studios and the way we develop original IP," said Rob Sorcher, chief content officer, Cartoon Network. "Bringing together world-class animators and game developers with Lego content and product design teams at the earliest stages of creation proved to be an energizing collaboration, showcasing the creative strengths of both brands."

"Our relationship with Cartoon Network has really evolved and they have been really great, supportive partners who share our passion for children," said Jill Wilfert, vice president licensing and entertainment for The Lego Group. "After working closely with them for the last few years, it is obvious that they truly understand and fully embrace our brand and our core values, so we are thrilled to embark on this new journey to develop and deliver a highly creative and fully integrated new experience with them."

  Nickelodeon Signs a Deal with Rubie's Costume Co.

Nickelodeon has signed a licensing deal with Rubie's Costume Co. to develop and produce a line of Halloween costumes, accessories, and dress-up products inspired by the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles series. The new line will target kids, adults, and pets. The Costume Collection features characters including, Raphael, Leonardo, Donatello, Michelangelo, Splinter, April O'Neil, Shredder, and The Foot Clan.

  Hasbro and Disney Expand Partnership

The Walt Disney Co. and Hasbro have expanded their merchandising partnership for the Marvel and Star Wars properties through 2020.

Hasbro will continue to develop toys and games for more than 8,000 Marvel characters, including Spider-Man, Iron Man, and the Avengers. The extension guarantees an additional $80 million in royalties to Disney in terms of Marvel-branded products.

"Disney's entertainment slate provides extensive content for both companies to build upon for years to come," Hasbro President and CEO Brian Goldner said in announcing the deal extension. The two companies have also aligned the terms of Hasbro's Lucasfilm agreement, following Disney's acquisition of the company. Hasbro's existing rights for the Star Wars franchise will also run through 2020.

  SMC Entertainment Expands Licensing Partners for Angry Little Girls!

SMC Entertainment Group Inc. (SMC) continues to expand the Angry Little Girls! licensing program in North America. The license expansion includes plush Kim dolls from Multiverse Studio and T-shirts from apparel partner Changes.

The Angry Little Asian Girl animated TV series premieres this fall on youth entertainment channel, MNET.

  HarperCollins Celebrates 50 Years of Richard Scarry

The Richard Scarry books have sold more than 300 million copies worldwide and one of the best-known books, Best Word Book Ever, celebrates 50 years this year.

The books have been translated into 28 languages and HarperCollins is set to publish a new anniversary edition.

This fall, HarperCollins Children's Books will also publish Biggest Word Book Ever, a giant board book with busy spreads and Best Lowly Worm Book Ever, the first new Richard Scarry book in more than 20 years. These new titles join a backlist in the UK, including the classics What Do People Do All Day? and Cars and Trucks and Things That Go.

  Star Trek Skele-Treks Debut at Comic-Con

CBS Consumer Products has created the Star Trek Skele–Treks universe inspired by Mexican culture and traditions in conjunction with Maya Studio and Spanish artist Javi Molner. CBS Consumer Products has signed National Entertainment Collectibles Association Inc. (NECA) to introduce a multi-category collection utilizing a signature artistic style.

Initial Star Trek Skele–Treks products were unveiled at Comic–Con in San Diego. Beginning in September, NECA will roll out the first cross-category collection of Star Trek Skele–Treks products worldwide, including apparel, accessories, figures, plush, and more featuring Captain Kirk, Klingons, and the Borg. Future collections will feature other Star Trek characters.

  Egmont Brings Forward Release Date of Angry Birds Books

Egmont has brought forward the publication of two new Angry Birds Joke Books (Angry Birds Space Joke Book and Angry Birds Seasons Joke Book), which are set to hit shelves this fall following demand from retailers and consumers.

Gillian Laskier, Group Sales Director, Egmont UK said: "Angry Birds has already proved to be a publishing phenomenon. We have been reprinting the Angry Birds Joke Book since it launched late last year at such a pace that, in order to keep up with demand, we have pulled forward the publishing of joke books 2 and 3. Our customers are selling the joke books through at a great pace, and three titles will give them even more 'shout' on the shelves."

In addition to the three joke books, Egmont has launched an activity title, Angry Birds Search and Find, and will also publish a novelty title in time for Christmas: Angry Birds: The Great Egg Hunt Press Out and Play.

  ArtMoose Set to Televise Monica Warhol Artwork

C3 Entertainment has signed a licensing agreement with ArtMoose for artist Monica Warhol. ArtMoose will feature Monica Warhol in an upcoming TV program that will showcase and make her artwork available to collectors. C3 represents Warhol for licensing and merchandising.

The artwork will be available in multiple formats, including Giclee high–resolution reproductions; fine prints that can be placed behind glass, matted, and framed; canvas as gallery wraps and standard stretched canvas suitable for framing; and art cards, which are a similar sizing to greeting cards. ArtMoose adheres the Giclee of the artist's artwork to the face of the card. An Art Card is suitable for framing and as a fine gift.

  Jungle Book Series Comes to India

Nickelodeon in India is bringing Rudyard Kipling's classic tale The Jungle Book to life this July. Nickelodeon will present the animation series, produced by DQ Entertainment International (DQE), Monday to Friday.

Nina Elavia Jaipuria, executive vice president and business head, kids' cluster, Viacom 18 Media Pvt. Ltd., commented: "Nick has always believed in delivering engaging content and endearing characters and Jungle Book is just that. We are excited to bring to our viewers a timeless story with affable characters, in a contemporized look, which is sure to enthrall kids across all ages."

  Warner Bros. Unveils The Big Bang Theory Art Series

Worldwide Television Marketing and Warner Bros. Consumer Products (WBCP) have launched The Big Bang Theory Artist Series, an exclusive collaboration with a select group of leading and emerging artists to celebrate TV's No. 1 comedy with a series of original artworks that debuted at Comic-Con.

The Studio invited artists from the U.S. and worldwide to collaborate on The Big Bang Theory Artist Series, expressing their visual interpretation of the series' characters and themes. Seven original pieces from The Big Bang Theory Artist Series were exhibited in a gallery space within the Warner Bros. booth at San Diego International Comic–Con.

Throughout the next year, WBTVG and WBCP will reveal additional participating artists, unveil new pieces and artwork, and announce upcoming gallery exhibitions featuring all artists in the series. Original merchandise based upon the Artist Series and future lithographic prints will be available at select events and retailers.

  Kitties in the Cities Signs License with AA Brands

Withit's Kitties in the Cities has signed it first license with AA Brands for apparel and nightwear in Europe. AA Brands will combine the program with a website and social media back up.

Kitties in the Cities was launched at the recent Licensing Expo in Las Vegas and both Richard Woolf, international licensing director of Withit, and Josy Fouche, from AA brands, said they are "delighted" to be working together again on this latest title.

  Chupa Chups Introduces an Ice Candy Maker

Chupa Chups has teamed up with Japanese toy manufacturer Takara Tomy to release an ice candy maker. This new invention allows users to make a 6–centimeter diameter Chupa Chups ice candy out of a lollipop combined with any beverage. The machine is user–friendly and has four steps that need to be followed to make an ice pop.

  Strong Expectations for Monsters U Merchandise

A few days into the release period of Pixar's Monsters University in the UK, expectations of strong toy sales are as high as ever for a Disney cinema release. The NPD Group Inc., a global information company, expects Monsters University to deliver a solid licensed product sales performance in the next few weeks.

The film was released in the U.S. on June 21. Two weeks after the release, it has already become the fifth largest toy license in the country, just behind Disney's Cars franchise.

Overall, 28 percent of the British toy market is made up of licensed toy sales. Cars 2 delivered the biggest–selling licensed toy sales in Europe of all time, turning over €312million in 2011 in the top five European markets alone. Two years later, Cars is still the largest toy license in France and the eighth largest in the UK.

  DC Comics Partners with Under Armour for Heroic Apparel

Warner Bros. Consumer Products and DC Entertainment have partnered with Under Armour Inc., for the Under Armour Alter Ego collection. Inspired by the popular DC Comics Superheroes, such as Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, and more, the Under Armour Alter Ego collection combines performance and personality so every athlete can feel superhuman.

The brands will debut a range of Under Armour Alter Ego products, featuring both women's and girls' products, as well as a variety of apparel, accessories, and gloves. Under Armour Alter Ego products will also be prominently featured in Under Armour's new I Will brand campaign. The new Under Armour Alter Ego collection is available now on and at sporting good retailers, and will be available throughout the fall season.

  Metrostar Appointed for Little Prince

Licensing agent Metrostar, has been appointed by Sogex and Propertiz to represent the classic French children's book The Little Prince in the UK and Eire.

Metrostar will seek partners—both retailers and licensees—in nursery, apparel, giftware, greetings, accessories, toiletries, and other related categories. Metrostar will also showcase The Little Prince at Brand Licensing Europe in October.

Written in New York in 1943 by French author, Antoine de Saint–Exupéry, The Little Prince is a poetic story, illustrated in watercolors, in which a pilot, stranded in the desert, meets a young prince who has fallen to Earth from a tiny asteroid. The story is philosophical and explores many peculiarities of the adult world through the eyes of a child. The most translated non–religious book in the world, more than 150 million books have been sold. Licensing programs for the brand are already established in Europe, North America, the Far East, and Australia.

  WNBA, P&G Partner for Imagine a Future Initiative

The Women's National Basketball Association (WNBA) and The Procter & Gamble Company (P&G) have established a new partnership with P&G brands' My Black is Beautiful (MBIB), Cover Girl, Tampax, and Secret. The multi–brand partnership will come to life through the enhancement of P&G's MBIB Imagine a Future program, which provides young adult females with tools and resources, including scholarships and access to workshops, as well as the newly released Imagine a Future documentary and downloadable discussion guide.

As part of this new partnership through WNBA Cares, WNBA players, coaches, and legends will appear along with the participating P&G brands and the Imagine a Future program at league and team events during the 2013 season. At these events, WNBA players, coaches, and legends will engage in conversations with young black girls about inner and outer–beauty, self–esteem, and mentorship.

Additionally as part of this partnership, the three P&G brands will be integrated throughout, courtside signage during nationally televised games, social media channels, and WNBA team partnerships. The Imagine a Future initiative will also be integrated into the 2013 WNBA Inspiring Women Award Luncheon on September 9 in New York City.

  Cartoon Network Brands Taiwan Train

Cartoon Network has teamed up with Taiwan High Speed Rail Corporation to launch the Cartoon Express, a new passenger experience on the island's train network.

At the unveiling ceremony in Taipei on July 21, children from under-privileged backgrounds were invited to be among the first passengers to climb aboard and experience a journey of a lifetime. The children saw their favorite TV characters from series including The Amazing World of Gumball, Ben 10, Regular Show, and The Powerpuff Girls.

Melissa Tinker, vice president of Cartoon Network Enterprises, South East Asia Pacific, said, "To see Cartoon Network's famous characters splashed on the inside and outside of this remarkable train, actually see our franchises come to life on such a huge–scale project is truly impressive and exciting. Not only is the design unique, we've customised a range of on–board items to keep kids entertained during their journey."

  FCP, Boom! Studios Partner for Sons of Anarchy Comic Books

Twentieth Century Fox Consumer Products and Boom! Studios have entered into a partnership for a comic book series based on the TV series, Sons of Anarchy, which is produced by Fox 21 and FX Productions. The creative team behind the Boom! Studios comic book series includes writer Christopher Golden, artist Damian Couceiro, and cover artist Garry Brown. The comic book will be available in comic shops nationwide beginning September 11.

  Channel RAI Yoyo Acquires New Episodes of Peppa

Entertainment One (eOne) has announced that RAI Yoyo has just picked up series five and six of its pre–school animated series Peppa Pig. In addition, new episodes will be aired in English using the original voice talent, with only the opening titles in Italian, to help develop the language skills of Italian children.

Massimo Liofredi, Managing Director at Rai Ragazzi comments: "We're always looking for ways to use entertainment as a tool for learning. The day to day activities that Peppa and her family experience in the show are things that all children can relate to in their everyday lives which makes it the perfect vehicle to help teach English in a fun and entertaining way."

  Birth of Royal Baby Sparks Merchandise Boom

The Duchess of Cambridge, Kate Middleton, gave birth to the much–awaited royal baby this week, and in a nod to what a global event this has been, merchandise has been springing up worldwide.

Products include a Harrods mug, royal bibs from Beauty and the Bib, and a book entitled Shhh! Don't Wake the Royal Baby from Bloomsbury Publishing.

There is also a Royal Baby app available on iTunes, artist Emma Bridgewater has released a royal range, special cheese from Westminster Cheddar, and a charm to go on sale from jeweler Pandora.

  Second Series For Mia and Me

Rainbow, in co–production with Lucky Punch and March Entertainment, has announced that due to strong international TV sales and positive ratings for season one, a second season of Mia and Me has been commissioned for broadcast by the end of next year/beginning of 2015.

The consumer product roll out plan for next year will be coordinated in each country as a result of the appointment of new agents: Exim for Latin America, Wild Pumpkin for Australia & New Zealand, PopCorn for Portugal, Point of View for Israel, B–Rights for Greece, and Planeta for Spain.

  Sesame and Shoe Mart in Promotion

Sesame Workshop has collaborated with Shoe Mart in the Philippines' for a promotion, which has been released in 45 Shoe Mart branches across the country. Sesame Street and Shoe Mart have been in a joint venture for many years prior to this deal.

The promotion is in cooperation with Resorts World Sentosa, Singpaore. With a single receipt worth PHP 500.00 of any Sesame Street merchandise, a customer is entitled to one raffle coupon. Prizes at stake are USBs, iPad covers and figurines and the grand prize of a trip to Universal Studios Singapore for a whole family of four, airfare and hotel included.

This was a new chance for Sesame Street Philippine fans to experience the Sesame Street Spaghetti Space Chase Ride, the world's first Sesame Street Spaghetti Space Chase brought by Resorts World Sentosa.
