Bandai and Sync Beatz Sign Mighty Fine Inc. for Tamagatchi L.i.f.e.

Bandai Co. Ltd. and its North American marketing representative Sync Beatz Entertainment have signed Los Angeles-based Mighty Fine Inc. as the first licensee for its Tamagotchi L.i.f.e. line of lifestyle products. Mighty Fine will create a complete fashion apparel line for juniors and women, including active wear, T-shirts, bodysuits, dresses, fleece, pants, shorts, and skirts that feature a contemporary take on the characters and design elements of the classic Tamagotchi brand.
The agreement was brokered by Evolution USA LLC, which serves as Sync Beatz Entertainment’s retail development and licensing partner for the Tamagotchi L.i.f.e. property in the U.S.
The Mighty Fine alliance kicks off the next phase for the new lifestyle brand–the introduction of a wide range of licensed products from home décor to accessories that embody the spirit and qualities of the original Tamagotchi experience. 

Big Idea Entertainment Appoints Cupcake Digital for VeggieTales App Series

Cupcake Digital Inc. will develop a new series of children’s apps featuring characters from the VeggieTales franchise. The deluxe story and activity apps, designed for kids ages 4 to 7, will feature the high-energy, family-friendly fun inspired by the Silly Songs and DVD titles.
The first VeggieTales enhanced activity app from Cupcake Digital is scheduled for launch in October as part of Big Idea Entertainment’s comprehensive marketing plan for the upcoming VeggieTales Merry Larry and the True Light of Christmas holiday DVD. The activities in the app take place at the Spring Valley Mall where Larry the Cucumber is hard at work as the Head Elf. Kids can help Larry in the mall and visit shops that offer a variety of creative, educational, and imaginative activities. The app will be available on iTunes, Amazon, Google Play, and the Barnes & Noble for Nook store.

Leaf Trading Cards Launches The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones Card Set

Leaf Trading Cards has released a 100-card collection chronicling pivotal scenes and character introductions from the recent film The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones. The base set features 71 different scenes from the film, 13 behind-the-scenes images, and 16 character cards. In addition, the retail version includes randomly-seeded Rune and Tarot inserts to go with the base cards.
There is also a limited hobby version that includes autographed cards, costume cards with oversized swatches, and very rare signed costume cards. Both the film’s director Harald Zwart, and the author of the six-book Mortal Instruments series Cassandra Clare, have signed a limited number of cards for the hobby set.
The retail version of the set can be purchased in five-card packs at Target and Wal-Mart, while the limited hobby version is available in six-card packs in hobby stores across the country.

Dollhouse Legend Lundby Returns to North America

DollhouseAfter a decade-long absence, the classic Swedish dollhouse brand Lundby is returning to the North American market. Lundby, a subsidiary of Sweden’s Micki, has announced plans to begin selling its dolls houses through as well as specialty toy stores.
The brand is well known for following trends in fashion and home décor, and for capturing snapshots of different eras with historical accuracy. Each dollhouse represents a dream house in miniature format 1:18 scale. In addition, the dollhouses feature pre-wired, child-safe, 5-volt lighting systems.

Galilea Montijo Signs to Represent Thomas & Friends Brand

Thomas the Tank EngineHit Entertainment, a subsidiary of Mattel Inc., has signed morning news personality and actress Galilea Montijo to represent the Thomas & Friends brand in Mexico. This follows the launch of the brand’s new Facebook and Twitter pages dedicated to reaching parents in Mexico, and the launch of the Thomas & Friends TV series on Televisa, Mexico’s No. 1 free TV platform.
Montijo, who is mother to an 18-month-old son, will support the new “Friends to Grow” (Amigos para crecer) campaign in the region and will also endorse the brand via her Twitter and Facebook accounts. She debuted in her newest role by hosting a Thomas & Friends fun day and story time at the Museo Tecnológico  in Mexico City in June for more than 100 children.
In early November, Thomas & Friends will release its newest move King of the Railway (El rey de las vías in Spanish) with a Blue Carpet Premiere in Mexico City that Montijo plans to host. The Blue Carpet Premieree will be the final destination for Thomas on his tour to celebrate the release worldwide, with stops in cities including London, Los Angeles, and Toronto.

The NBA and Netshoes Launch

The National Basketball Association (NBA) and Netshoes have launched, the first official NBA online store in Mexico.
Online company Netshoes operates The store features an assortment of NBA merchandise, including the latest performance and lifestyle apparel and footwear by Adidas, the official outfitter of the NBA. Other merchandise includes bags, backpacks, headwear, and Spalding basketballs—the official game ball of the NBA. The site also allows fans to personalize official league jerseys.
The site offers enhanced product views to show specific design details and navigation features to allow fans to search for items by team or product category. Fans can sign up to receive emails or RSS feeds on new product releases, special promotions, and limited-time offerings to stay up-to-date on what is new. marks the NBA’s fourth official international online store. The league has more than 30 percent of merchandise sales generated from outside the U.S. Netshoes and the NBA launched in Brazil, in Europe, the Middle East, and Africa, and in China.


The Licensing Forum Brings Together Top Industry Professionals

The seventh annual Licensing Forum will take place on September 12 at Ifema in Madrid and will bring together the leading professionals in the industry of Spain and Portugal. The event will be held in parallel with the Intergift Fair. The forum will feature 13 exhibitors that will bring approximately 500 brands.
Ten companies will have their own booths: Biplano Licensing (Hello Kitty, Betty Boop); Copyright Promotions Licensing Group Barcelona (Skylanders, The Simpsons); El Ocho, Licensias y Promociones (Kimmidoll, Peppa Pig); Fremantle Media (Monsuno, Rebecca Bonbon, Tree Fu Tom); Hong Kong Licensing Show, HKTDC; LIMA Iberia; Luk Internacional (Doraemon, Robin Zingone); Mattel Brands (Monster High, Max Steel, Barbie, Hot Wheels); Planeta Junior (Maya the Bee, Sesame Street, Redakai); and Selecta Vision (Dinosaur Train, Miss XV).
The event will feature three other companies that will participate in the new Meeting Space: Arait Multimedia (Inazuma Eleven); Imira Entertainment (Lucky Fred); and Mendía Licensing (Pepsi, Asterix and Obelix).
The forum will also feature a round table about retail, discussing the weight and influence of retailers in the licensing business. The discussion will cover topics such as programs for retailers, the information they receive and require from licensors and agents, and the figure of the preferred supplier, in which retailers can propose or impose specific licensees. Games and Puzzles Distribution Deal for Babar

ITV Studios Global Entertainment (ITVS GE), which represents the UK rights for Babar on behalf of Nelvana and The Clifford Ross Co., has announced a new UK distribution deal with Stepping Stones Marketing for Babar games and puzzles.
The Babar Wooden Magnetic Shapes Set and the Babar Deluxe Puzzle Wheel from specialist toy and gift design group Mudpuppy will be distributed from early fall by Stepping Stones Marketing. Other gifting and department stores are targeted for the holiday season in the UK, where Babar celebrates his 80th birthday this year.

LIMA UK to Hold FLIP Career Development Networking Event

Victoria Saint, head of publishing and videogames EMEA at Turner, Cartoon Network Enterprises and Anya Hollis, head of commercial development B2B at the Science Museum Group, will share career advice at the second LIMA UK FLIP (Future LIMA Industry Professionals) networking event will take place on Wednesday September 25. The event will focus on how to develop a successful career and find peer-to-peer support within the licensing community and will take place in London at The Dana Centre Café, adjacent to the Science Museum.
Saint will draw on her career in brand and entertainment properties to give attendees insights and advice on how to succeed in licensing. Following a talk with Hollis, there will be an opportunity for attendees to have a drink and network with others within the licensing community.

Licensing Day at Frankfurt Book Fair

The Frankfurt Book Fair, taking play October 9 to 13, will once again host a Licensing Day on October 11. For the first time, it will also offer an event location specifically geared toward licensing agencies, licensees, and licensors with the addition of the Kids Bubble. The Kids Bubble is a luminescent event dome in the outdoor space at the heart of the Book Fair, providing an opportunity to present children’s media and products, as well as characters and brands, both to potential business partners and directly to the fair’s younger visitors.
There will be a look at children’s and YA licensing trends from 11 a.m. to noon, Networking soup from noon until 1 p.m., and a book fair tour on licensing and merchandising from 1 to 3 p.m.

The Hummingbird Bakery partners with Beanstalk to Extend The Brand

The Hummingbird Bakery, an authentic, American-style baking brand, plans to extend into new product categories through licensing with global brand licensing agency Beanstalk. Beanstalk will be looking for licensing partners across a range of food and non-food items, including ice cream, chocolate, biscuits, cake decorations, syrups, and flavored teas, as well as authentic American bakeware, kitchen textiles, and kitchen appliances.
The Hummingbird Bakery offers a unique visual and gourmet feast that captured the taste buds of UK consumers during the opening of its first London branch in 2004. The brand has become an authority of American-style baking in the UK, as evident in the popularity of its five London bakeries. In addition, there are three chart-topping cookbooks under the brand, including The Hummingbird Bakery Cookbook, Cake Days, and Home Sweet Home, which have collectively sold more than 1 million copies in the UK.

Benross Signs Deal with Wall’s

Benross, suppliers of homewares and electrical products, has secured a licensing deal with British ice cream brand, Wall’s. The supplier will bring a collection of Wall’s branded kitchen appliances to the home retail market. The range consists of vintage-style milkshake makers, food blenders, electric mixers, electric whisks and DAB radios.
The license will also extend to the brand’s ‘classic modern’ range, which includes mini-fridges and slushie makers. These additional electrical items will incorporate a number of Wall’s nostalgic ice cream product brands, such as Twister, Feast and Mini Milk.

ITVS GE Partners with Smith & Brooks for Matt Hatter Clothing Line

Matt HatterITV Studios Global Entertainment (ITVS GE) has signed a new UK licensed apparel deal for Platinum Film’s boys’ property Matt Hatter Chronicles. Licensed children’s clothing company Smith & Brooks will produce a range of Matt Hatter-branded outerwear for boys ages 4 to 10.
Inspired by the series’ visuals, designs, and character themes, the Matt Hatter clothing range will launch in the fall and winter of next year across a wide selection of high street stores, specialist outlets, and online retailers.
The Smith & Brooks signing follows Platinum Films’ recent appointment of the Simba Dickie Group as the master toy licensee. They join Penguin, Titan, Topps, TDP Aykroyd, Character World, Trade Mark Collections, VMC, and Pedigree in an expanding licensing portfolio for the Matt Hatter brand.

Saban Brands and TF1 Reach Deal to Broadcast Julius Jr.

Julius Jr., Saban Brands’ and Brain Power Studio’s new animated series aimed at preschoolers, has been licensed to broadcaster TF1 in France. MarVista Entertainment, the series’ exclusive international distributor, negotiated the deal. All 26 half-hour episodes of the series will make their debut on TF1 shortly after the show’s worldwide debut on Nick Jr. in the U.S., which is scheduled for this fall.
TF1 Licences, a subsidiary of TF1, will serve as the official licensing agent for Julius Jr. in the region.
Julius Jr. centers on the preschool version of the iconic Paul Frank character, Julius, who has a knack for invention to go with schemes to make his wildest imaginings come true. The show also features his best friends Worry Bear, Sheree, Clancy, and Ping. Together the characters use their imaginations and inventive natures to help each other overcome challenges both big and small.

More Companies Confirm Presence at Moscow Licensing Event

At the first edition of the Moscow Licensing Event, organized by BolgonaFiere Spa through its local partner, now only two weeks away, Bulls Licensing has confirmed its attendance. In Russia Bulls represents the King Features properties, Beatles and 50 shades of Grey, among other brands.

The number of Russian companies attending has increased, reaching almost 90 Russian-based key players attending the event to learn more about all the international brands which will be represented by the foreign agencies and brand owners.

The event program includes an intense legal affairs workshop and the contribution of the major Russian based licensing agencies, such as Megalicense and MarmeladeMedia.

The event will take place in the Radisson Royal Hotel, Moscow on 17 - 18 September.

Pac-Man Partners Up in Australia and New Zealand

41 Entertainment and its Australian agent, Gaffney Global Licensing have granted two new licenses for Australia and New Zealand for the Pac-Man and the Ghostly Adventures property.
Banter Toys and Collectibles has been given the right to distribute the Commonwealth toy and Novelty line from the U.S., including beanies, magnets and décor, key chains, outdoor toys, balls, and home goods. Caprice Australia has been given the right to design and distribute outerwear, including T-shirts, fleece, tops, jackets, shorts, pants, sleepwear, underwear, socks, swimwear, footwear, bags, and backpacks. Both lines will launch beginning in November.


Chupa Chups to Exhibit at Brand Licensing Europe

Chupa Chups will present its new designs at this year’s Brand Licensing Europe expo. Chupa Chups will also announce a string of nearly 20 new licensees from European and Asian markets that have recently come on board. On the first day of the show, a press event will be held at noon at the booth to reveal this year’s best performing licensee and agent, as well as new collaborations.

Fifty Shades of Grey Lead Roles Confirmed

EL James, author of Fifty Shades of Grey, has revealed the two stars for the upcoming film adaptation of the best-selling erotic novel. Charlie Hunnam and Dakota Johnson will star as Christain Grey and Anastasia Steele, respectively.
The Fifty Shades trilogy has sparked a strong licensing program, managed by CopCorp in the U.S. and Caroline Mickler in the UK.

Coolabi Announces Second Season for Poppy Cat

Coolabi has greenlit a second season of Poppy Cat. Season two follows on from the success of season one, which has been sold to nearly 150 territories worldwide.
Poppy Cat is co-produced by Coolabi’s TV production arm, Coolabi Productions, and King Rollo Films, with commissioning broadcasters Nick Jr. (UK and Australia) and Sprout (U.S.). CAKE is also confirmed as the international distributor for the second series. Production for the animation is already underway, with delivery to broadcasters expected next spring.
