  Jakks Pacific to Launch Nintendo-Licensed Toys and Costumes

Jakks Pacific Inc. has been granted rights in major toy categories by Nintendo of America Inc. to manufacture, market, and distribute a line of toys and related consumer products based on a library of iconic Nintendo characters. In addition, Jakks' Halloween costume division, Disguise Inc., has been given rights to offer Halloween costumes and accessories based on these Nintendo properties. Properties include Mario and Luigi, Donkey Kong, Princess Peach, Game Link, and Zelda.

The licensing agreement allows Jakks Pacific to manufacture, distribute, and market toys, games, playthings, novelties, plush, key chains, and costumes worldwide (excluding Japan and Korea). Jakks Pacific is expected to launch this new product line at retailers nationwide in the spring of next year. Disguise plans to launch Halloween costumes and accessories for the upcoming Halloween season.

  Melanie Beer Appointed as Licensing Director of V&S Entertainment

V&S Entertainment has appointed Melanie Beer to the role of licensing director. Beer will be responsible for the global licensing and consumer product roll-out strategy for Everything's Rosie and will also be responsible for liaising with broadcasters.

Prior to joining V&S, Beer has worked in similar positions for the past 16 years at companies including BBC Worldwide, Warner Bros., Disney XD, HarperCollins, and Hallmark Cards.

  Art Impressions Expands So So Happy with Colorbok Partnership

The So So Happy lifestyle brand from Art Impressions is expanding into crafts and activities through a new partnership with Colorbok. The So So Happy collection will be centered around activities such as sewing, painting, iron-ons, jewelry-making, and plaster/clay crafts. It is expected to launch in the fall and will be available to retailers in the U.S., the UK, and Scandinavian countries.

The So So Happy brand message of positivity revolves around core values: embracing individuality, being kind, spreading love, and believing in yourself no matter what is standing in your way. As a way of giving back, the company donates 10 percent of its profits to organizations that offer support to kids in crisis.

  Cartoon Network to Launch at IMG Theme Park

Ilyas & Mustafa Galadari Group (IMG Group) is partnering with Turner CN Enterprises to bring a Cartoon Network Zone to the IMG Theme Park in the United Arab Emirates.

IMG Group's collaboration with Turner CN Enterprises will deliver the world's first themed attractions for The Amazing World of Gumball, Adventure Time, and LazyTown. The IMG Theme Park will also feature the world's largest Ben 10 retail store and the first ever Ben 10 5-D ride, along with branded restaurants and other branded immersive experiences across 200,000 square feet.

  Hunter Products Appointed for Walking With Dinosaurs 3-D

BBC Worldwide Australasia has named Hunter Products as the Australian toy and game distributor for the film Walking With Dinosaurs 3-D. The film will launch in Australian cinemas in January 2014 and Hunter Products will support the release by distributing a full range of toys and games created by Vivid Imaginations.

Walking With Dinosaurs 3-D is a co-production between natural history storytellers BBC Earth, 3-D pioneers Evergreen Films, and Reliance Entertainment, with animation and visual effects produced by Animal Logic in Australia, with backdrops filmed in New Zealand. Audiences will join dinosaur characters on an adventure that will take them back 70 million years to see our world as it was when dinosaurs roamed the earth. The film uses the 3-D expertise of Cameron l Pace Group and will be distributed by 20th Century Fox in Australia, New Zealand, the U.S., and the majority of international territories.

  Me To You and Chupa Chups Form Partnership in Russia

Me To You and the Chupa Chups brand have formed a partnership in Russia. Products to be released in the spring include Chupa's chocolate balls with Me to You and Me Blue Nose Friends figurines inside.

"We always want to provide good emotions and entertainment to our consumers. Me To You characters are an example of all those innocent and playful moments where friendship and trust is in day to day communication and behavior," comments Xavier Bafalluy, Marketing Manager, Perfetti van Melle Group Russia. "The adorable teddy bear and his friends are bringing the positive values that Chupa Chups as a Brand wants to provide in any of its products to our kids."

  Saban Brands Signs with Lotta Luv Beauty for Paul Frank Cosmetics

Saban Brands has partnered with Lotta Luv Beauty to produce a collection of Paul Frank cosmetics. The line will feature Paul Frank's iconic monkey, Julius, with Lotta Luv's creative packaging, unique components, and fun flavors for teens and tweens. Set to be released later this year, the line will consist of lip balm, lip gloss, nail polish, hair accessories, and gift sets.

  CopCorp Promotes Michelle Zamora to Licensing Manager

CopCorp Licensing has promoted Michelle Zamora to licensing manager. In her new role, Zamora will assume the added responsibilities of managing domestic and international clients, while facilitating constructive communications between licensees and licensors. In addition to these responsibilities, Zamora continues to play a key role in ensuring licensee adherence to quality, copyright, and style guide standards throughout the approval process, from concept submissions to final production.

  Peavey Electronics to Produce DC Comics Super Heroes Instruments

Peavey Electronics has a new line of officially licensed musical instruments celebrating the iconic DC Comics Super Heroes. Under a licensing deal with Warner Bros. Consumer Products on behalf of DC Entertainment, these new musical instruments will capture DC Comics Super Heroes, including Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, The Flash, and Green Lantern, in highly detailed artwork on guitars, percussion instruments, and accessories. The instruments will be specially designed for DC Comics enthusiasts, serious collectors, and musicians of every skill level.

The new product line will debut in the summer with a half-size Peavey acoustic guitar followed by a three-quarter size Peavey electric guitar, and the full-size Peavey Rockmaster electric guitar. Peavey will also release guitar picks and straps featuring DC Comics Super Heroes and villains such as Aquaman and The Joker, as well as Watchmen and other fan favorites.

  Fox International Signs New Agent for Baby TV

Fox International's BabyTV channel has signed an agreement with publishing and licensing agent ZNN Licensing for Turkey and Northern Cyprus. Building on BabyTV's presence on Digiturk, ZNN will focus on developing consumer products and a retail program and create on-pack promotional opportunities with FMCG brands.

"Key data such as viewer feedback, app downloads, and website traffic tell us that BabyTV has a stronger following in Turkey than in many other countries," said Ralf Kies, Director Global Licensing & Merchandising for BabyTV. "We are therefore very pleased having ZNN on board to drive our licensing business in this market."

  Seltzer Licensing Appointed Agent for Scotts Miracle-Gro

The Scotts Miracle-Gro Company has appointed Seltzer Licensing Group as its exclusive global licensing agent. The Scotts Miracle-Gro Company is a global marketer of branded consumer lawn and garden products. Seltzer Licensing Group will be focusing its efforts on the Scotts, Miracle-Gro, and Ortho brands.

"After a long search, we've chosen Seltzer Licensing because of their strategic approach and thorough process in licensing brand management," says Lisa Zierten, director of marketing for The ScottsMiracle-Gro Company.

  DHX Media Signs Deal for Ella the Elephant in Turkey

DHX Media has announced a key TV sale in Turkey for its new preschool series Ella the Elephant. Ella the Elephant is produced by DHX Media in association with TVO Kids and Fremantle Media Kids & Family Entertainment in CGI-animation against 2-D backgrounds and has already been sold to Disney Junior and Warner's Home Video in the U.S. and TVO and Tele-Quebec in Canada.

In Turkey, Ella the Elephant will air on Yumurcak TV, a children's channel that is part of the Samanyolu Broadcast Group. Yumurcak started its satellite broadcasting in June 2007 and became a top kids channel with its cartoons, documentaries, and educational programs for kids. Yumurcak is a long-time partner of DHX Media and is currently the home for evergreen shows such as Caillou and Arthur. Ella the Elephant is based on the books Ella the Elegant Elephant by Carmela and Steve D'Amico.

  Firefly RPG Products in Development

Margaret Weis Productions (MWP) has entered into a partnership with Twentieth Century Fox Consumer Products to publish tabletop role-playing products based on Joss Whedon's TV series Firefly. Initial releases are expected in the spring with print and digital releases based on MWP's award-winning Cortex system.

The adventures of Captain Malcolm Reynolds and the crew of Serenity continue to attract new fans a decade after the TV series first aired. MWP will develop a series of pick-up-and-play games and game supplements based on the characters, stories, and locations in the TV series.

  Fox Appoints The Zoo in Australia

Twentieth Century Fox Consumer Products (FCP) has appointed The Zoo as its new promotional licensing agency in Australia. The company will pursue and manage promotions for the consumer products division throughout Australia and New Zealand.

The Zoo will play a key role in the success of FCP's promotional efforts and will oversee programs across a range of film and television properties from the Fox library, while Haven Licensing will continue to drive licensed merchandise initiatives for the region.

The Zoo will be taking on film promotions for Ice Age and Diary of a Wimpy Kid, while pursuing television promotions for The Simpsons, Modern Family, Glee, Sons of Anarchy, and Family Guy among others.

  Smart Toys and Games to Release Angry Birds Strategy Game

Smart Toys and Games Inc., producer of single-player logic games and the SmartMax magnetic construction system, has partnered with Rovio Entertainment to develop Angry Birds strategy games.

Based on a SmartGames design, Angry Birds Under Construction challenges players ages 8 and up to solve 48 puzzles by using four playing pieces of varying shapes to cover the correct number and type of pigs and Angry Birds according to the pattern in the included booklet. The built-in storage case makes this game travel friendly.

  Dennis the Menace Talks Cycle Safety

Dennis the Menace is encouraging kids to wear helmets while cycling in a free poster for schools produced by Beano in partnership with Brake, the road safety charity. Dennis and Gnasher are also featured in a downloadable board game that gets kids thinking about simple steps to help them get home safely. Schools are encouraged to use the poster as part of lessons or activities that teach children about the dangers of traffic and the importance of road safety.

  Industry Veterans Launch Children's Media Company

Traci Paige Johnson, creator of the preschool TV series Blue's Clues and co-creator of SuperWhy, and Caroline Baron, award-winning producer of acclaimed feature films, including the Oscar-nominated Capote and Monsoon Wedding, have teamed up to launch the new interactive children's media company yummico. yummico produces entertaining media for preschoolers across multiple platforms, with a focus on digital games, interactive shows, apps, and e-books, as well as traditional narrative animation, print books, and other consumer products.

The new company kicks off with the musical food adventure series Yummiloo. Yummiloo gives the phrase “playing with your food” an entirely new meaning as it makes trying new foods fun and sets a foundation for a lifetime of healthy eating. Featuring the Yum Yums, a band of creatures who live in a world made entirely of food, Yummiloo uses story-based games to help kids discover the basics of food identification and nutrition. The first Yummiloo app, Yummiloo Rainbow Power, is an interactive game produced in collaboration with Night and Day Studios. It launches on the iTunes store on March 20. yummico will be rolling out additional content shortly.

  TVMania Becomes Sonic Licensee

Sega Europe has added TVMania to the list of Sonic the Hedgehog licensees. The company will produce a range of apparel and accessories for Germany, Austria, and Switzerland.

Brokered by Fremantle, TVMania will develop apparel and accessory lines for babies, children, teenagers, and adults. European fashion retailer Takko is on board to stock the new product lines.
