Sony Acquires Stake in DHX Media’s Peanuts

peanutsDHX Media and Sony Music Entertainment (Japan) Inc. (SMEJ) agreed that SMEJ will indirectly purchase 49 percent of DHX Media’s 80 percent interest in Peanuts for $185 million in cash, subject to customary working capital adjustments. Pro forma for the transaction, DHX Media will own 41 percent of Peanuts, SMEJ will own 39 percent, and the members of the family of Charles M. Schulz will continue to own 20 percent.

DHX Media and SMEJ have also agreed to extend the duration of the current Licensing and Syndication Agency agreement with SMEJ’s consumer products division, Sony Creative Products Inc. in Japan.

 

Genius Brands Expands Licensing Partners for Rainbow Rangers Retail Launch Next Year

RainbowRangersGenius Brands International Inc. continues to grow its range of licensing partners in support of next year’s Rainbow Rangers retail launch based on its new original preschool series by the same name. The CGI-animated series is currently in production on season one, and will premiere in fall 2018 on Nickelodeon’s Nick Jr.

Zag Heroez Miraculous Ladybug Signs New Licensing Deals

MiraculousLadybugBulldog Licensing signed three new licensing agreements for Zag Heroez Miraculous-Tales of Ladybug & Cat Noir. The show airs in more than 120 countries, and a live-action feature film will be debut in 2020.

New partners include Smith and Brooks for T-shirts, leggings, dresses, and swimwear; William Lamb for bags and purses; and Rainbow for costume characters. These deals follow recent agreements with H&A for health and beauty products and Sambro for arts and crafts.

 

Wilson Sporting Goods Creates Sports Gear Inspired by Disney Properties

The line includes products for football, basketball, soccer, volleyball, and baseball, and features designs inspired by key theatrical releases within Disney Animation, Pixar, Marvel, and Lucasfilm portfolios.

The first product collection showcases gear inspired by Solo: A Star Wars Story and is now available for pre-sale on wilson.com/en-us.  A second collection featuring Incredibles 2 will be available on June 15.  

 

Play Visions Inc. Acquires MegaFun USA Product Lines

PLayvisionsMegaFun_ResizePlay Visions Inc. acquired a portion of MegaFun USA toy product lines, including select Mega Marbles toy products and, in 2019, the Payaso brand of Play Balls.

In a deal secured with MegaFun USA, Play Visions Inc. will take over sales and distribution as of May 14. Play Visions represent Mega Marbles and Payaso product lines at future toy industry shows.

Additional information will be announced regarding the future distribution of bulk Mega Marbles polybags within the coming weeks.

Hasbro to Acquire Saban Brands’ Power Rangers and Other Entertainment Assets

Saban_PowerRangersHasbro Inc. and Saban Properties LLC signed a definitive agreement for Hasbro to purchase Saban’s Power Rangers and several other entertainment brands, including My Pet Monster, Popples, Julius Jr., Luna Petunia, Treehouse Detectives, and others, in a combination of cash and stock valued at $522 million.

Hasbro previously paid Saban Brands $22.25 million pursuant to the Power Rangers master toy license agreement, announced in February, that was scheduled to begin in 2019. Those amounts are being credited against the purchase price. Read the rest of this entry »
