GameCo Inc. Appoints Richmond Management Group as its Licensing Consultant

gamecoGameCo Inc. appointed Richmond Management Group (RMG) as its licensing consultant. RMG will work with third party internet protocol (IP) owners to acquire brand rights for GameCo to develop video games for its skill-based video game gambling machines (VGM).

GameCo’s proprietary VGM is an arcade-style video game cabinet that features a single-player game, while maintaining the same casino economics as slot machines. Games offered will include first-person action, sports, racing, fighting, puzzle games, and more.

At Gamescom, Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment (WBIE) revealed that LEGO Dimensions Starter Packs for Sony PlayStation 4 will include an exclusive, bonus DC Comics Supergirl LEGO minifigure for a limited time. The collectible Supergirl LEGO minifigure has many in-game abilities to help players solve puzzles and battle enemies, including super strength, flying, x-ray vision, and beam attacks. Geek & Sundry Partners With Green Ronin for Critical Role Books

Green Ronin Publishing has signed a licensing agreement with Geek & Sundry to release roleplaying game sourcebooks based on Critical Role, the weekly web series in which eight voice actors come together for an ongoing Dungeons & Dragons game. The books, which will be written by Critical Role creator and Game Master, Matthew Mercer, will bring readers into his world of Exandria.

Critical Role has more than 50 million views since its launch in March. Its cast includes Mercer, Travis Willingham, Marisha Ray, Taliesin Jaffe, Ashley Johnson (Blindspot), Sam Riegel, Liam O’Brien, and Laura Bailey.

The series has also attracted celebrities who have joined the cast as special guests, including Chris Hardwick, Felicia Day, Wil Wheaton, and Phil Lamarr.

Work is underway on the first book, Critical Role: Tal’Dorei Campaign Setting, scheduled for release next spring. All books in the series will use the Fifth Edition rules.

Illumination Entertainment, NBCUniversal Brand Development to Launch Minions Surf Collection

584453842.453929746Illumination Entertainment and NBCUniversal Brand Development will launch a surf capsule collection based on the Minions from Universal Pictures and Illumination’s Despicable Me film franchise.

Set to launch on August 15, the collection will be sold exclusively by Swell.com in North America and Europe, and by Surfstitch.com in Australia.

Inspired by the theme in the Minions Paradise mobile game, the Minions Lost in Paradise Collection features limited-edition apparel and swimwear designed by street artist Buff Monster and Australian surf industry brand Rusty.

The collection will include T-shirts, denim, and board shorts for men; and T-shirts, a midi dress, denim, and swimwear, including a bikini and one-piece options, for women.

Surfers, style icons, and real life couple, Jay Alvarrez and Alexis Ren, will collaborate in the launch. Surfer Noa Deane, will appear in association with the collection.

GBI Expands Licensing and Retail Program for SpacePOP in North America This Fall

Genius Brands International (GBI) continues to expand its licensing, merchandising, and retail program for SpacePOP with a slate of new North American licensees.

The new toy partner for SpacePOP, The Madame Alexander Doll Co., will create a line of fashion dolls and figures based on the brand’s main characters. Other new licensees include KIDdesigns for youth electronics, tech accessories, and electronic toys; Mad Dog Concepts for loungewear and sleepwear; Franco Manufacturing for bedding and bath textiles, accessories, and room décor; Berkshire Fashions for hosiery, head wear, and cold weather accessories; and FAB Starpoint for bags, backpacks, and accessories.

Existing licensees include Taste Beauty, Bare Tree Media, Canal Toys, Yowie Group Ltd., Jaya Apparel, H.E.R. Accessories, Sony Pictures Home Entertainment, and Imprint.  SpacePOP merchandise will begin rolling out at retail in the U.S. in fall.

GBI has also launched a number of marketing initiatives, including a YouTube Influencer campaign; national promotional partnerships with Six Flags, Dippin’ Dots and Camplified; promotional campaigns with Musical.ly and PopJam; and a dedicated SpacePOP site, SpacePOPGirls.com.

De La Soul Partners With Rovio’s Angry Birds for an Angry Birds Action! Game Update

Hip Hop innovators De La Soul have teamed up with the creators of Angry Birds for an update to Angry Birds Action! game released by Rovio this April.

The Big Pig Update will allow players to listen to the new De La Soul track “Action,” composed by the group for the game. It will also bring a one-week event hosted by the hip hop pioneers in their bird form, granting players unlimited energy as a special power.

The update also adds 90 new levels and unlocks Piggy Island for players. Previously, the Piggy Island area in the game could only be unlocked by going to see The Angry Birds Movie in theaters.

De La Soul’s “Action” comes ahead of the August 26 release of And the Anonymous Nobody, the group’s first full-length album in 11 years.
