The National Basketball Association (NBA) and Take-Two Interactive Software Inc. (TTWO) partnered to launch NBA 2K eLeague, a competitive gaming league. This marks the first official eSports league operated by a professional sports league in the U.S.
The league will debut next year and will consist of teams operated by actual NBA franchises. The founding teams, each composed of five professional eSports players who will play the game as user-created avatars, will be announced in upcoming months. The NBA 2K eLeague will follow a professional sports league format: competing head-to-head throughout a regular season, participating in a bracketed playoff system, and concluding with a championship matchup.
Entertainment One (eOne) expanded the consumer products program for the global preschool series Peppa Pig, which airs on Nick Jr. in the U.S. and Treehouse TV in Canada. TCG will renew its contract for Peppa Pig games, and Ty Inc. will renew its contract for plush Beanie Babies. Independent French animation studio Procidis appointed new licensees in France and internationally for its animated series Once Upon a Time…Life, which is part of the classic Hello Maestro umbrella brand.
With the launch of the revamped TV series on France 4 in March, the first new products to rollout include a comic book and documentary books. Additional licensees that will launch products in France this year include, SONY for DVDs, Hachette for an encyclopedia, La Poste for an official stamp, and Alcara for charms. Bay Tek Games will debut licensing agreements for Skee-Ball consumer products, which that will be available on digital platforms and other channels, at the North American International Toy Fair this month.
Ocean Media will create an interactive Skee-Ball app, which will be available on platforms including iOS, Android, PS, Mac, Linux, and other consoles this year. Tetris partnered with Puyo Puyo from SEGA to create a fast-paced, competitive party game. The game offers tons of gameplay styles with Tetris/Puyo variety. Plus, an in-game Shop enables players to unlock new characters and skins for Puyos and Tetriminos. Jazwares introduced six fully articulated 3-inch figures and three multi-figure accessory packs to its Minecraft line, expanding its toy collection based on the digital world.
The action figures include Charged Creeper Pack, Zombie Pigman Pack, Alex with Diamond Armor Pack, Snow Golem Pack, Steve with Minecard Pack, and the Witch Pack. The new multi-figure and accessory packs will include Alex with Skeleton Horse Pack, Alex Survival Pack, and, for the first time, kids can add their favorite animals from the game with the Wild Animal Pack.
Launched in 2009, Minecraft is a sandbox video game where users can build and go on adventures in a 3-D block world. Minecraft has sold more than 106 million copies to date.
Licensing Works! will expand the Mundo Lanugo licensing program initiatives for its client Lanugo Inc., a multi-platform Spanish language preschool property.
In December, a line-up of Mundo Lanugo Christmas carols were released. Licensing Works! plans to expand its outreach and currently seeks licensing partners for this year’s Christmas merchandise, which will include plush, books, toys, games, music, ornaments, apparel, packaged grocery, live touring shows, and in-store promotional programs.
This January, Mundo Lanugo was featured at Macy’s in an expanded Three Kings celebration for the fourth consecutive year as part of the New Year celebrations.
GameCo Inc. will developing three new casino games for its video game gambling machines (VGM) based on the science fiction film, Terminator 2: Judgment Day (T2), under license from Studiocanal S.A.S.
The first game is planned as a first-person action game where players will take the role of a reprogrammed T-800 with a mission to aid the human resistance by exterminating opposing Terminators.
