Mercis B.V. and UNIQLO have teamed up for an apparel line featuring Miffy, the classic children’s character based on Dutch artist Dick Bruna’s story books. The spring and summer kids’ range will help mark Miffy’s 60th anniversary this year.
The launch of the Miffy X UNIQLO range will roll out across UNIQLO stores in 15 countries, including Australia, China, France, Germany, Hong Kong and Macau, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Philippines, Russia, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand, the UK, and the U.S.
The range combines Dick Bruna’s illustrative style of minimal black lines contrasting with bright primary colors with UNIQLO’s contemporary approach to clothing design. Miffy’s silhouette is featured throughout. The collection includes girls’ T-shirts and shorts, as well as baby T-shirts, crew neck bodysuits, and pajamas.
Cartamundi is set to launch a new range of card games with packaging and design inspired by classic early Disney. The first three releases will star Mickey Mouse as he appeared in his earliest years. Disney Mickey Mouse Retro Edition Happy Families, Disney Mickey Mouse Retro Edition Game Box, and Mickey Mouse Retro Edition Game Box Compendium (Deluxe version) will be available this fall and winter.
The Happy Families box is a Mickey and Friends-themed take on the game. Disney Mickey Mouse Retro Edition Game Box contains a deck of 55 playing cards; a leaflet with eight different playing card games, including Old Maid, Go Fish, Kilos, and Patience; a Yahtzee game; five dice with a guide to a number of fun dice games; a Yahtzee notebook; and a leather dice cup. The Deluxe version also contains a Happy Families game and a memo game.
All the games and packaging will include imagery from the very earliest days of Mickey Mouse and friends such as Minnie Mouse and Donald Duck, housed in a beautiful box with a pre-faded retro look and illustrated with facsimiles of the original Mickey from 1928.
On May 3, all Toys “R” Us locations nationwide will celebrate Star Wars Day with one-of-a-kind in-store experiences. Fans of all ages who visit their local store from 12 to 2 p.m. are invited to dress as their favorite Star Wars character, take a picture with Geoffrey the Giraffe, and experience a special Lego Star Wars build and giveaway, while supplies last.
Event attendees can also enter to win a $1,000 Toys “R” Us gift card and a trip for four to Toys “R” Us Times Square in New York City for a private Star Wars shopping experience this fall.
Throughout 2015, customers will find promotions and discounts on Star Wars items in-store and online, starting with a buy one get one 40 percent off all Star Wars merchandise offer, valid from May 3 through May 9 at Toys “R” Us stores nationwide and online.
Additionally, gamers can preorder Star Wars Battlefront. The video game will be available November 17 and will allow players to immerse themselves in epic Star Wars battles.
To provide customers with an immersive, digital destination for all things Star Wars, Toys “R” Us has created an online Star Wars hub at Toysrus.com/DestinationStarWars, which will showcase video content, event information, and more later this year.
Painting Lulu has signed a multiyear licensing agreement with Mattel to bring the Barbie and Hot Wheels brands to the physical and digital worlds of Painting Lulu in time for the back-to-school and holiday seasons.
The licensed products are the first two licensed brands integrated to the Painting Lulu image-analysis technology. The new experience will feature the brands in a 32-page coloring book, digital stylus, and the free downloadable coloring app.
Painting Lulu is a paper-to-digital coloring set that allows kids to color in a Painting Lulu coloring book with regular crayons and then scan the page using an app on a smart device. Kids can enhance and correct their coloring with tools and colors available on the app.
Genius Brands International (GBI) has licensed its animated science-inspired adventure series, Thomas Edison’s Secret Lab, to NCircle Entertainment. NCircle will widely distribute the show digitally and on DVD at major retail outlets nationwide and online starting in Decembet. The series will also debut on Netflix in July, and on PBS stations and the Kid Genius Cartoon Channel on Comcast in September.
Lawless Entertainment has been appointed as worldwide representative for Rufus, a book-based property that features Rufus, a dog who goes on exciting adventures with his animal friends.
There are currently four board books and one hardback book with six Rufus stories selling on Amazon. The titles are also available in ebook format for Kindle and iPads. A full line of 18 Rufus greeting cards are available for purchase from Showcase Greetings, a UK-based greeting card company.
Lawless Entertainment is handling all licensing and merchandising worldwide, including publishing. It is also seeking co-production partners for the project.
Hoho Rights, the commercial arm of kids’ production company Hoho Entertainment, has appointed Zippy as a new UK baby and toddler clothing licensee for its pre-school series Cloudbabies.
Zippy will develop a range of high-quality baby and toddler apparel and accessories for Cloudbabies, including nightwear, daywear, baby essentials, bibs, and more.
This latest signing follows the recent appointments of IVS Group as the master toy partner, and Global Solutions for Clothing (GSC) as the dress-up partner under the Pretend to Bee brand.
Cloudbabies debuted on CBeebies in the UK in May 2012. Aimed at preschool kids, the series features the adventures of four childlike characters whose job it is to look after the sky and their Sky Friends, and teaches children about caring for others and the world around them, introducing them to the wonder of the sky and the concepts of day and night, sun and moon, and rainbows and stars.
To mark its 20th anniversary, MHS Licensing has added Kim Norlien and Courtney Morgenstern to its roster of licensed artists. Norlien is a seasoned veteran of art licensing, while Morgenstern is new to the industry. Both will be introduced at Licensing Expo.
Norlien, a full-time fine artist, is known for his wildlife and landscape paintings. His images can be seen on products such as puzzles, crafts, greeting cards, and gifts.
Morgenstern’s 10 year career has focused on commercial graphic design for greeting cards and paper products.
At Licensing Expo, MHS Licensing will also introduce new images from its other licensed artists. These art properties generate more than $115 million in annual sales through their licensee partners collectively.
