Perry Ellis International Expands Callaway Apparel Licensing Rights

Perry Ellis International, apparel licensee for Callaway Golf, confirmed an agreement to expand its current partnership to design, manufacture, and sell golf apparel across Europe, the Middle East, and Africa.

Currently, the principal apparel distribution in the region is operated by Callaway Golf. Perry Ellis International will assume responsibility for distribution channels for golf apparel products across Europe, the Middle East, and Africa, transitioning on January 1. The men’s and women’s European Callaway Fall 2013 line is currently available at retail at golf specialty stores and resorts in the UK, Ireland, Germany, Sweden, Norway, Spain, Portugal, Austria, Switzerland, Finland, Czech Republic, Turkey, and the Middle East. The addition of South African and European roll-out of the brand is expected by next spring.

Perry Ellis International currently markets Original Penguin and Farah brands in Europe from its London headquarters facility and design center. Perry Ellis will integrate Callaway Golf business into its existing European organization and commercial infrastructure.

For the remainder of the 2014 fiscal year, Perry Ellis will make investments in staff and filling key open positions, upgrading product design of Callaway Golf apparel to reflect the expanded region’s consumer palate, and enhancing the existing operating infrastructure to perform the warehousing, embellishment, and fulfillment of the apparel products.

Turner Broadcasting Brings Adult Swim to Asia Pacific

Turner Broadcasting System Asia Pacific has launched Adult Swim in Australia, the first market in the region to experience its humor. Adult Swim exists entirely online, as an on-demand video platform.

The brand is a multi-platform digital offering delivering a catalogue of more than 1,500 animated videos. The content is available free of charge through AdultSwim.com.au and on mobile devices including iOS, Android, and Windows 8 PC and phone, creating a targeted approach for advertisers to connect with the 16-to-34-year-old male demographic.

Key content includes Robot Chicken animated series, Harvey Birdman, and Metalocalypse.

The launch of Adult Swim, as a premium entertainment offering online, highlights Turner’s commitment to TV Everywhere in Asia Pacific. The platforms were developed in partnership with MCM Entertainment Group’s online video platform business Movideo.

Sesame Street Characters to Promote Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Consumption to Kids

First Lady Michelle Obama announced that Sesame Workshop and the Produce Marketing Association (PMA) joined the Partnership for a Healthier America (PHA) in a two-year agreement to help promote fresh fruit and vegetable consumption to kids, making healthier choices easier for families to make.

The agreement allows PMA’s community of growers, suppliers, and retailers to take advantage of the Sesame Street brand’s strength and influence without a licensing fee, using characters such as Big Bird, Elmo, and Abby Cadabby to help deliver messages about fresh fruits and vegetables. Sesame Street characters may be on produce in stores as early as next year.

SmileyWorld Ltd. Signs New Deals

blog_headerSmileyWorld Ltd. and Decopatch have signed a two-year deal to distribute Smiley stickers across Europe and the Middle East. These chunky, kooky stickers can be used to brighten up any notebook or phone case or to just make you or someone else smile.

The line drops in February, with the stickers to be available from boutiques and hypermarkets such as Cultura, Monoprix, and Ludendo.

Spanish toy manufacturer Educa Borras has also struck a deal with SmileyWorld to produce and distribute six different Smiley-themed puzzles featuring the iconic SmileyWorld artwork. The sizes range from 100-500 pieces as well as puzzles with over 600 pieces to accommodate children of all ages. The puzzles will be available for purchase from department stores and specialty markets around the world.

Women in Animation Relaunches Under New Leadership

Oct30.WIAThe professional non-profit organization for women in the animation industry, Women in Animation, has re-launched under new executive leadership. Heading into the organization’s 20th year, the newly-elected co-presidents include Mattel’s Margaret Dean and Technicolor’s Kristy Scanlan.

As co-presidents, Dean and Scanlan will lead WIA and communicate its role and future vision to worldwide members—a world in which women share fully in the creation, production, and rewards of animation, resulting in richer and more diverse entertainment and media that move our culture forward.

Additionally, a new executive committee, board of directors, and advisory committee have been created. The executive committee includes Margaret Dean, Kristy Scanlan, Barbara Cimity (Robot Chicken) as treasurer, and Dawn Rivera-Ernster (Walt Disney Animation) as secretary.

The board of directors will include all of the members of the executive committee, along with Jinko Gotoh (The Little Prince for Onyx Films), Tracy Campell (Walt Disney Animation), Anna Jordan-Douglass (The Jim Henson Company), and Karen Kirkland (Nickelodeon).

The advisory committee includes Bonnie Arnold (DreamWorks Animation), Jenna Boyd (Nickelodeon), Ann Le Cam (Walt Disney Animation), Lenora Hume (Shut Up! Cartoons and TeamTO), and Adina Pitt (Cartoon Network and Boomerang).

Marvel Signs New Partners for Avengers-Themed Products

Marvel is collaborating with new partners to release merchandise that fights plaque and satisfies hunger. New brands include Perdue for chicken tenders in Avengers packaging; Nabisco for Avengers-shaped Cheese Nips and Honey Maid Chocolate Graham Crackers to feature Avengers packaging; Langers Juice for Avengers Assemble juice pouches, bottles, and boxed; Crunch Pak Snackers to work on a line of apples, pretzels, and cheese; and Kellogg’s for brand-inspired fruit snacks.

In the oral hygiene category, new partners include DenTek and Listerine for brand-inspired fruit-flavored floss picks and mouthwash, respectively. All products are slated to hit retail shelves between now and January of next year.
